What type of hard surface do you use to set your eyelets? I bought a cheap, hard top desk but that just doesn't do the trick so I have to go to my porch, which is concrete. Not the best thing to use because everytime I do, I chip a little bit of paint off my porch. Before too long my husband is going to kill me! So what do you use?

I bought a wooden cutting board at Big Lots for about $4, and that seems to work for me. Save your porch-------your husband will appreciate it! :flower:

I also use a wooden cutting board! My husband says it used to be the top of a school desk, which would make sense because there is a little cut out at the top to hold a pencil! LOL

It works great and I am glad that I have it. I just store it under my desk until I need it! :)

I use a home-made table. The top was the piece of a counter top that was cut-out for the sink. DH got a set of brackets designed for screwing in wooden legs at the hardware store.

I have to wonder, though, if it is the surface alone? I know someone who uses a piece of wood (similar to what I have) but doesn't have it set up as a table. She lays it across the top of a card table. She's having trouble setting them. I suspect it has something to do with how sturdy the base is.....but I could be wrong.

ETA: I forgot! Like Cyndi I use the mini self-healing mat ON the table.

I do mine on my desk, but I sit a self-healing mat ( a mini from MM ) underneath it first.

This is exactly what I use too! I have the cut out from the sink, it is not a table or anything though. I use it for all types of craft projects and just bring it to where ever it is I am working.

I have a random piece of board from who knows what... I scrap on my carpeted floor and the board works great :)

My family would probably had me committed. The first time I used an eyelet setter the kids started running downstairs because they thought someone was knocking on the door. :teeth: :rotfl:

Thanks for that link, Spinning. I think I might get that board - I can't imagine just one little "whack" and it's done. Even on my porch I feel like I'm pounding pretty hard. Maybe that's why the paint keeps coming off..... :rolleyes1

I use the hard white plastic piece for a Sizzix machine. I bought a replacement piece for $3.29 from Michaels and then I used a 40% off
coupon. Can't get any cheaper :rotfl: It works great!

I also use a self healing mat. I do however use the mat on the floor. Just seems to work better and not as noisy as on the table. :) My favorite eyelets are the ones from WDW the Mickey Mouse eyelets :)
