Just got back last nite from 4 days at DL. Sometime on Wednesday, I remember getting hit in the eyeball with a drop of water as I was on Splash Mountain. Thursday morning my eye was a little sore, and got worse as the day went on. Friday morning my eye was red, sore and tearing. This was great as I was driving 8 hours back to Sac. As of Today, my eye has yellow puss and is really red. I have been applying hot towels to it and I am going to the doctors tomorrow.

I dont know if anyone else noticed, but the water at Splash had a odd oder.

Even though this happened, I still had the time of my life.

You can't say for sure that your eye infection was caused from Splash Mtn. water ~ I hope your eye clears up quick.

NO I cant.

But with with water having weird smell and remembering the drop specifically hitting my eyeball, I would say it is probably the reason.

I am very good about washing hands and not touching my face when hands are dirty.

What do you expect, getting splashed with water that resides immediately next to a body of water filled with ducks and their "output"?

Eye infections, ear infections.... What's next on this board? :/

I do hope that your eye's recovering, fastpass!!

Well, there is a lot of chlorine in that water... should kill most of the bacteria that might end up there... are you sure the "water" didn't come from another guest??? Maybe it was spit??? We rode Splash quite a bit this week... especially Tuesday night while it was raining. Hope your eye feels better soon!

You seem to very specifically remember when a single drop of water hit your eye. If that single moment in time was of such a great concern, did you proceed to First Aid to inquire about what to do?

I don't think I would remember a single drop of water hitting me in the midst of a busy, fun visit to DL.

Sorry your eye has an infection. I hope it clears up soon. I have not read elsewhere about others experiencing this. Have you? Have you reported it to Disneyland?

Even if the water smells like chlorine, it does not mean that the concentration of chlorine is high enough to kill whatever is in the water. I use the term "chlorine" as a generic. Don't pools use bromine? Anyway, like pools, if the chemical level isn't above threshold, those bugs thrive. Might not be bacteria anyway. Ever see fungus growing on a contact? Cured me of my desire to toss my glasses!

It was not a concern when it happened. I was having fun and thought it wouldnt be a problem. I have had water in my eye before.

It is a weird feeling when water like that comes in contact with the eyeball. Usually you blink before something hits it.

I have not told DL anything about it as I figure they wouldnt do anything about it. I am not asking for anything. I was just making a comment on this site.

Sounds like what you have may be pink eye, which might very well be spread in another manner - on our first family trip to DL in 2006, our daughter had a nap 2 afternoons prior to us leaving on our flight to DL, and her one eye was totally RED upon awakening. (No prior signs or symptoms at all.) It was pink eye, the Dr. told us, and was easily treated with drops. I hope yours goes away quickly, and that no one else gets it. I'm not dismissing the idea it could have come from the water, but I think it is more likely to be pink eye than an infection from the water. Because the water does hit people's faces, Disney likely has to chlorinate pretty heavily, and test the water (I would assume.)

Edited to add: Even if you're good about not touching your face, etc... it takes one second for you to rub your eyelashes if it feels like something's in them, etc., to place bacteria or a virus in that area, and a person really doesn't even know they've done it. They've done chalk tests before where a person's hands are covered with pink chalk (on the palms) and before long, people have touched a lot of areas on their faces.

I'm curious to know how clean the water is on Splash and on PotC. It didn't smell offensive to me on either ride, it just smells nice and humid, like when you walk onto the POTC ride que, just as you get indoors. LOVE that smell! Miss it so much!!

Just got off the phone with Kaiser advise nurse. It is Pink Eye  , which means bacteria in eye (extremely generic term). Eye drops will be at pharmacy tomorrow monring. Wow, that was too easy. Glad I didnt have to waste my Sunday at the doctors.

Yes, now thinking about it, I was on ride after ride after ride (gotta love the fast pass) andI touched so much. I guess there is a great chance I rubbed my eye. Just that drop that hit the corner of my eye is so stuck in my head. Trust me, it is such a odd feeling when something touches your eyeball.

The smell of the water in multie areas reminded me of my parents hot tub, after it sat for a while and my dad was warming it up, running the pumps, and adding chemicals back to it to get it back to normal. That smell really stuck out to me, almost giving me a flashback to my dad working on the hot tub.

Again, I am not blaming DL or want anything. Just a comment.

Also, yes it is midnight and I am still up. I slept all day recovering for 60 hours in 4 days at DL. What a zombie I was on the last day and I used the force while driving :drive: 8 hours home to Sacramento :car: . I am so thankful :worship: I planned 2 days to recover before going back to work. :yay:

I have had water drip on me on that ride many times too. Especially in the convered lift area that is outside. Anyhow...sucky about pink eye but that is what I suspected. I too am careful never to touch or rub my eyes as I wear contacts but when you are in a place where soooo many people and their germs are, and you get so caught up in it all, you probably do things you wouldn't normally because you aren't thinking about it. I am assuming disney must test that water often to avoid getting in trouble with the state and inspectors. I agree it does smell weird though...kinda yucky.

What is the Difference between a Sty on the eye and pink eye please does anyone know???

Swollen lump near the lid margin - stye
Red eye with yellow eye discharge - "pink eye" or bacterial conjunctivitis
