eye glasses in Canada?

I remember reading somewhere on here a while ago about getting glasses in Canada. We will be going to Niagara Falls and Toronto this summer. I need new glasses. How do I get a perscription there and is it in fact cheaper??

Well, others may have different opinions, but I live in Canada - about halfway between Toronto and Niagara Falls - and just bought glasses today. $490 for one pair of progressive bifocals. I also got them to replace the lenses in my sunglasses with the same lenses as in my regular glasses, just tinted and uv coated. The optician didn't charge me the dispensing fee for the sunglasses and gave me a break on the lenses, but those cost about $250. Not sure what glasses cost in the US, but around here they cost an arm and a leg !!

I don't know how much glasses cost in the U.S., but myself and my two sons just got new glasses at Walmart optical and for three pair it was about $600.00 with taxes.

Clearlycontacts.ca has some really good prices, my husband got his from there. I need prism added to my lenses and they don't do that, otherwise I would have ordered mine from them as well.

I was thinking about getting glasses in the U.S. because they seem to be so much cheaper there!
DH's glasses are a very difficult prescription--bifocals and he has some serious problems with one eye--so we never expect to get his glasses just anywhere. Last year we replaced the lenses on his prescription sunglasses, were fortunate enough to have a 40% discount, and the price was still about $450. If my math is right, the full price would have been over $700.
The cost of his eye exam was completely covered due to his eye condition.
