Did anyone watch, and what were your feelings about this show? I cried of course but couldn't help thinking that even that mom was much too young to be taking on so much of a home (yard etc.) and couldn't help but think that home was not too "kid" friendly. Even the mom said she thought" us kids would never get anything like this" . Any opinions?

I was under the impression that she was NOT the mother of all of those children. I didn't see the whole show so I can't say for sure.

i cried thru the whole show. she was the mother of the girl and the foster mother of the two boys. she has her masters degree and has been working for a number of years as a social worker...

I've cried through all the episodes I've seen...they do major work...though this one did seem in a run down area....bet they never leave that house....

But they went to the Boardwalk...I was soo excited to see the entrance...:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I have boo-hooed through every single episode of this show so far. I was so happy for the family, particularly Angel (the 18 year old boy). He said he never had a mom until he was 18--I think he deserves to have LOTS of dreams come true. The mom really seems to have worked hard to not only provide for herself and her biological daughter, but for her additional family members as well. I was so happy that they got to stay at the BWI. I'm sure it was great for them to get a few days of luxury and pampering. It looked like they might've had a suite.

This is such an awesome show! ABC looks like they spare no expense on the houses they have done so far, and what great cross advertising for Disney.

The show is getting better each time---it is awesome how the ussssed the Disney Imagineers for the girl's room. I want it---maybe in the future for a kids room (not for a while). It seems like it is an hour commerical at times for Sears and Disney--but at least it is a small Disney fix. I don't have cable anymore, so I like seeing Ty at work.;)

Taken from ABC's website -

When Contessa Mendoza was 17 years old and still in high school, she made the tough decision to become a single mom. This exceptional young lady went on to become the valedictorian of her high school graduating class and eventually earned her masters degree. Despite enormous odds, Contessa, who is a social worker, has given everything of herself to raise her daughter and two foster kids. When it was decided that the Van Nuys, California house where Contessa Mendoza and her family live needed more space, the team of designers and workmen of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition stepped in and made some dramatic changes, including adding a second story to the house.

I think for being as young as she is, she is doing a wonderful job!

Thought it was great what they did for them. I was very happy for them. What they are doing is a very good thing.:D

Maybe my post was too brief, I did not intend to imply she was a bad woman. Not at all, she seems extremely strong at 27 but did you notice that yard? I'm 39 and wouldn't know what to do with it. let alone the grille. And no, only one child is "biological"...Angel is an adopted 18 yr old and the younger boy is a foster child. I'm sure they all have alot of "baggage" and deserve those dreams along w/ many others. I just wonder how long b4 that house will be in "caos" (sp?) again.

Maybe this will be a good fresh start in upkeeping the house. It is a blessing for her to not worry about pipes breaking down, clutter, not having enough space, and that original garage door. It is great that they hired Angel---I hope he gains many skills that will push him even higher than he can imagine now. The kids have an excellent chance to even dream bigger.

There is nothing like a strong dose of positive mental attitude.

I thought it was awesome! I was flipping between that and American Dreams. It was wonderful to see them really truly help out such a great family. They seemed genuinely appreciative and I am sure they will upkeep it....especially now that the oldest will be learning the construction biz!

What was?? The beautiful rooms, the brand new furniture and appliances or the extra 400 sq. ft. they added??

I can't see any reason why people would have a problem with this episode??

Jealousy can be a very ugly emotion.

These makeovers look good on TV. but would you want to live in a house that only took a week to extensively remodel? They are in such a hurry to complete things on time that I wonder how quality the work really is. I'd like to see in six months how things have held up.

I'm with you, goldengate; I LOVE what they do to the homes, at least for the surface visuals, but as with any new home, after it settles a bit there can be contracting issues that literally "pop up". I can only hope that they do re-visit the structure to take care of those things. We took an old farmhouse down to it's studs with the help of a wonderfully talented contracting team and if they hadn't been around months later to clean up some of the natural consequences of such extensive renovating, we would've been in bad shape.

It's a fun show, no matter what. I enjoy the pleasure it is bringing the families.

I assume everything is taken care of beforehand. Just like on Monster House on Discovery, they have inspectors come in and check to make sure everything is structurally sound. There is no way ABC would want to be involved in that kind of lawsuit. They must do extensive research and planning on the homes, even though it looks like a suprise, I mean who can call their boss last minute and tell them they are going to WDW for a week last second?

I was very lucky to meet the familly from the last show (the Cox family) while I was in Disney in January!! They were staying at the Beach concierge also!! I spoke with the mom for a long time she said they pay for them to stay at Disney for the week all inclusive, also they get the VIP treatment while at the parks no waiting in lines ect...... She said they had tv crews with them for several of the days and then had days where they were not taped. She was such a sweet lady.
