Extreme Non-Smokers?

Because it'd be chaulked up to a severe asthmatic "episode". And you don't know if it's never been tried. Also, not to mention the fact that it's still not totally illegal to smoke. In my city, you can't smoke in public buildings unless it's a bar. But you can smoke out on any old sidewalk. I don't think that what I describe is on the lawbooks as murder.

Exactly what I said in my first post. There are a lot of smokers who are rude, and use the world as their ashtray.

There are people on both sides of this issue (as seen on this very thread) who get confrontational about it. But what smoking isn't is murder, as car in the OP claimed.

I drive a convertible. When people flick their ashes or throw their butts out the window and they happen to be driving in front of me....guess where it goes. Yep, right into my car, my face, etc. Just curious, what is wrong with flicking into your ash tray? :confused3

OUCH! We just had this conversation at work the other day.....All newer American made cars DO NOT HAVE ASHTRAYS!!!!!!!

Yes, they do. But, you have to pay $40. to get one. If you're tossing $5.+ a pack down the toilet, you can spend $40. to get the "smoker's package" in your car.

Ok, I am a smoker. What happened to your friend was terrible. That doesn't mean every smoker out there is a jerk like these guys were. Believe it or not I am not out to kill anyone. Trust me I am not!

Contrary to popular belief, a lot of non-smokers aren't hacking up a lung to make you feel bad (I'm sure some are though). If I'm coughing around you, it's because your cigarette emits a nasty, disgusting, gross odor. So, sorry if it's offense to you that I cough. I'm not doing it to get you to quit because I honestly don't care if you smoke and get sick from it. I'm coughing because nasty, disgusting odors cause coughing.

You can buy an ashtray at most large mini marts and truck stops that hooks on your door. It looks like a cup with a lid with a hole in the middle and has a hook. You hang it between your window and the door frame. Works great. Not only can it be used on the left or right side, but you drop the lit butts down inside the hole and it puts them out quicker and they don't stink so much. I got one for less than $5 at 7-11.

BTW I quit smoking 3 months ago. I cannot stand condescending non smokers and even worse nazi ex smokers. I quit in my own good time and not because some jerk made coughing, gagging sounds and waved his hands in front of his face yelling "peeeeewwwww". It doesn't work. Give it up.

I`ve seen quite a number obnoxious posts from smokers on this thread but i`ve finally decided to add my opinion to this debate. I will continue to "wave my hands in front of my face" because i have asthma and am allergic to cigarette smoke and YES it does help in keeping at least some of it out of my lungs, thanks. I think the problem with most smokers is, they don`t care what their doing to those around them:rolleyes1

I also love when people smoke in the lines at WDW:rolleyes2

I think smokers are friendlier than non-smokers. ;)

At least based on this thread!! :teeth: (i've compared obnoxious posts)

Well, I'm a non-smoker, and my posts are usually obnoxious. When I'm not on threads like this I like bowling, and torturing kittens.

I can see how you think that because you aren't a smoker, but when I smoked, you wouldn't believe the looks, the comments when they would walk away, the "you know you're killing yourself" statements. All this when I was in smoking areas. Very self-righteous. It's okay to say that to me, but god forbid I tell a fat person they are killing themselves when they are eating those fries. And I wouldn't do that anyways, because it's obnoxious.

My promise to smokers....Now that I have quit, I will never belittle you, make a fake cough, or tell you that you're dying when I see you smoke. :teeth:

ITA!!!! My DFi was a smoker and his grandfather (an ex-smoker... who still smokes cigars every day which he seems to think is healthier) CONSTANTLY hounded him about smoking when we were visiting them in FL. Literally, every day. Even I got sick of it!! I undestand their concern, but it wasn't like he wasn't trying to quit at that point and comments like that just made him angry instead of encouraging him to quit. I agree with vivilavegas on every point of this one.

I know that not every smoker is a jerk. As I said previously, I know lots of smokers and used to live with one.
But, there are quite a few out there that are jerks. And that one incident is not my only one. I've had several people do the same thing to me.
And my friend has had several people do that to her. I've almost lost her several times due to this. And several times she's had to go to the hospital due to the resulting asthma attacks.

But I do appreciate the considerate smokers. My ex would only smoke outside the house (his choice), never in the car and when we went out, he would ask if he could go smoke. He was completely considerate of me and of others. But he actually grew up in a house of non-smokers. And most smokers come from smoking homes.
And many think it's their right to smoke whenever and where ever they please. And forget the fact they might be doing someone else harm. Only worrying that they get their "fix". I've lived with and around too many smokers that are very inconsiderate of others, so I know that they are around.

I think as long as you don't smoke, it's okay to torture kittens.
I'll have to check on that.

I think saying smoking is murder is extreme.

From reading this thread, I think there are some people on both sides that think their rights are more important than the other side's rights.

Cigarrette smoke triggers my asthma (if I am coughing, it is not "fake", I have cough-variant asthma). Because of this I avoid designated smoking areas, don't allow smoking in my home or car, and don't patronize places that tend to be full of smoke. It is my illness and my responsibility to control it. Smoking is legal, and smokers have every right to smoke in designated smoking areas, their home or car, and places that allow it.

That being said, I do think there are some inconsiderate smokers (those that smoke in non-designated areas, etc), just as there are inconsiderate non-smokers (those that try to make smokers guilty for smoking where it is allowed, etc.)

Both smokers and non-smokers have rights, and both should be considerate of the other.

Ok, not to be mean, but I have worked in many bars and restaraunts and I have never, ever seen a smoker purposely blow smoke in someone elses face. I am not saying it didn't happen I just can't imagine the reason for it. If you are saying that the person is purposely trying to induce an asthmatic attack against your friend, I again say they are being a jerk and perhaps you and your friend should stay away from these wackos.

Just because it's not on the books yet, does not mean it's not murder.

If you had severe asthma and told someone that, then they proceeded to light up and purposely blow smoke in your face, you start having an attack due to that smoke, and they just laugh in your face and continue to blow smoke at you, you die and you don't call that a form of murder?
It was on purpose. They saw you having a severe attack and just laughed and continued to do it.
It's the same as hitting someone with your car, seeing that they are injured and suffering and just hitting them again.
That is a form of murder. Period. It just may not be on the books yet.

Okay, if that ever did happen, then it's not the norm and you can't tell me that happens often. If it is, your friend must be doing something. I can't believe that all these people are purposely blowing smoke at her so she has an asthma attack. Sorry.

I've been around smokers a long time, and I have no idea why you'd characterize this person as a "smoker", not a "sadistic creep." Normal people, which includes smokers, don't do this. Period. Normal people also do not sit there while people blow smoke at them, if they're prone to asthma attacks, and will not willingly die to prove a point. This supposed murder case will likely never happen.

Completely agree.

Smoke travels. You don't have to blow it in someone's face on purpose for them to get a mouthful of it.

Maybe you can't believe it because you've never seen it happen. I have. Several times. And she does nothing to provoke this.
And politely asking someone to move to another seat is not infringing on their rights to smoke or even be there.
I've had many people blow smoke at me. I've even had people follow me on the bus stop when I start coughing and walk away. I say nothing or don't even look at them. I simply walk away coughing because the smoke is affecting the intake of air to my lungs. They follow with their cigarettes. I walk away again. They follow again.
This has happened several times and with different people.

As I've said, I know there are considerate smokers. But there are just those wackos out there that want to be mean and hurtful.
