Extreme Non-Smokers?

I can see how you think that because you aren't a smoker, but when I smoked, you wouldn't believe the looks, the comments when they would walk away, the "you know you're killing yourself" statements. All this when I was in smoking areas. Very self-righteous. It's okay to say that to me, but god forbid I tell a fat person they are killing themselves when they are eating those fries. And I wouldn't do that anyways, because it's obnoxious.

My promise to smokers....Now that I have quit, I will never belittle you, make a fake cough, or tell you that you're dying when I see you smoke.

And I have never done this unless the person was deliberately being a jerk. If I can, I will simply move away. As for coughing around smoke, that happens only when there is smoke and I happen to be allergic to it.

AMEN! Although I have been guilty of telling a close friend that they stink immediately afterwards.

I think smoking is gross but it's a choice just like non smoking is.

They have a right to smoke in places that allow it just like I have a right to avoid those places! I don't generally see that many smokers being rude to me and I'm never rude to them.

I don't smoke. Never have, never will, but the definition of murder makes the statement on the car in the OP false for a few reasons.

Murder-The unlawful killing of one human by another, especially with premeditated malice.

Since smoking is still legal in this country and I've yet to hear of anyone who premeditated to kill someone with secondhand smoke, like it or hate it, it isn't murder.

When people purposely blow smoke at you and do whatever they possibly can to be a nuisance with their cigarettes, I call that hateful and possibly murderous. Everyone is aware of what second hand smoke can do. They just simply ignore it because of their own selfish wants.

I've been happily quit for a few months now, but let me share my favorite story....

I was standing outside with my cigarette in my hand. This man walks by me, looks at me, and then makes a big show out of coughing and waving his hands because of my smoke. Only problem? The cigarette wasn't lit yet!!! What a tool!!!!

Congrats on quitting. The guy was probably overreacting, but I don't think most smokers realize how the cigarette smell clings to them and truly how bad they can smell, even when they aren't puffin away.

Unfortunately, considerate smokers are a minority. Smokers have earned their bad rep and their world becomes increasingly smaller every day because of it.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm left-handed. When I smoked, I probably would've gotten in an accident if I had to try to do it with my right hand in order to use my ashtray.

You can buy an ashtray at most large mini marts and truck stops that hooks on your door. It looks like a cup with a lid with a hole in the middle and has a hook. You hang it between your window and the door frame. Works great. Not only can it be used on the left or right side, but you drop the lit butts down inside the hole and it puts them out quicker and they don't stink so much. I got one for less than $5 at 7-11.

BTW I quit smoking 3 months ago. I cannot stand condescending non smokers and even worse nazi ex smokers. I quit in my own good time and not because some jerk made coughing, gagging sounds and waved his hands in front of his face yelling "peeeeewwwww". It doesn't work. Give it up.

Yeah but, a fat person eating french fries isn't going to hurt you with second hand grease or make you have a severe allergic reaction because he/she is eating fries.

I don't say anything to a smoker about killing themselves, that's their problem. I will however say something to people who are smoking in no smoking areas and the reactions you get is horrible. "It's my right to smoke wherever I want" (ah, no it's a no smoking area). "It's a free country" (what about our fresh air?).

I once watched a child have a severe allergic reaction to cig smoke from someone just like ChuckB who didn't believe the parents when he sat down and chose to light up and chain smoked in front of them, afterall it is his right and HOW DARE that kid cough like that! These parents had brought their son to his very first ballgame and couldn't make it through the first inning because they had to take the kid home.

I don't hate smokers. Some of my dearest friends smoke. I don't understand attitudes of some smokers, like ChuckB. I see it bothers you, so I'll blow it in your face. That is very sad.

A person with a severe asthma attack can die. If a smoker caused that attack, I would call that murder.

Yes and as children we also rode in the car without carsets and we are still around to tell the tale. Doesn't mean it's a smart thing to do.

I grew up in a home where both parents smoked in the house and in the car. I am severely asthmatic as an adult and I am the only person in my entire family tree with this disease. My allergy doctor feels certain that it is from living with two smokers as a child. And no, I don't resent my parents because I have heath issues from their smoking. I realize that in the 1970s people weren't as aware of the health risks. But the fact is, yes, I do have health problems because of their smoking around me. I was constantly sick as a kid. I had frequent colds, sinus infections, bronchitis and missed a huge amount of school days because of all these illnesses. All I'm saying here is that there are more illnesses besides cancer that result from living around second hand smoke.

DH had a somewhat rare childhood disease that now is believed to be caused by exposure to second-hand smoke (both his parents smoked). Of course at the time his parents had no idea that their smoking was the culprit.

Because it'd be chaulked up to a severe asthmatic "episode". And you don't know if it's never been tried. Also, not to mention the fact that it's still not totally illegal to smoke. In my city, you can't smoke in public buildings unless it's a bar. But you can smoke out on any old sidewalk. I don't think that what I describe is on the lawbooks as murder.

But, as a person who has a best friend who has severe asthma attacks due to smoke, I will do whatever I can if this would ever happen to her. I would owe it to her husband, her three children and her sisters and parents, as well as myself. And in what happened to us, I did tell those guys that some had asthma and they purposely blew their smoke at her as she was obviously having and attack. They just laughed and blew more smoke her way. Luckily, she had some medicine with her and was able to control it after leaving and getting away from them.
But this kind of thing should never happen. Non-smokers and people with asthma and allergies should not have to choose between staying at home and never having a "life" or leaving the house and giving up their life.

I disagree. That's a pretty broad statement. I no longer smoke but when I did, I was always considerate of others and most of the smokers I knew and still know, do the same. Let's face it, how many morons are going to deliberately blow smoke in someone's face? I've never seen it and believe me, I've been around the block a few times. You can't take an isolated incident or two and condem all smokers as being inconsiderate.

Ok, I am a smoker. What happened to your friend was terrible. That doesn't mean every smoker out there is a jerk like these guys were. Believe it or not I am not out to kill anyone. Trust me I am not!

Yeah but be honest- as a cancer patient, don't you wish you had quit earlier? Some "jerks" are worth listening to.
