Extreme Non-Smokers?

I am a smoker, I can see where it would be in bad taste to smoke, around hospitals, someone trying to eat in a resturant, but when it comes to the outside, and you dont want to smell it, hold your breath .......

One problem there, ChuckB - breathing is a necessity of life. Smoking is a drug addiction that is not a necessity of life.

People with allergies to cigarette smoke have reactions to it that prevent them from being able to breath normally, but I don't guess that really fits your idea...

Nicotine addiction is the same as cocain addiction, heroin addiction, etc. It is a drug. The only reason it is legal is due to so many rich and powerful people that smoke. It should be illegal just like every other drug. :stir: There is nothing good that comes out of cigarettes. Those smokers who say it calms them down are only lying - if they hadn't have started smoking in the first place they wouldn't need one to "calm down".

If smokers don't mind it, then why do they drive with their windows down instead of up? Why do they flick their ashes out into the world instead of using their car ashtrays? Why do they throw their used butts around anywhere they happen to be standing or driving instead of throwing them in the trash like a decent human being?

If it isn't so bad, drive around with your windows rolled up and use your ashtray... :confused3 Then you can smoke all you want and nobody else has to have a problem with it... :thumbsup2 :smokin:

So, if I decide to walk around spraying cheap, nasty perfume or mace or something equally offensive to the nose, people should just hold their breath? Good to know. I've always wanted to have the elevator all to myself. Now I know all I have to do and is get some Wal-Mart perfume and stand there and spray, spray, spray....they can either leave the elevator or hold their breath. Good idea.

And I wouldn't be so quick to judge someone who is trying to get a message across, we just don't know what he/she has gone through.
I'm quite certain that there are very few people left on this earth who don't realize the dangers of smoking. I guess I'll just chalk it up to "free speech".

Just rude... I think fresh air came first.... Why don't smokers put a bag over their heads?

I lost my MIL to smoking (she was only 56) My DD now will grow up without a DGM and my DH lost his DGF (paternal) to cancer also.

I am allergic to smoke and my DD has asthmatic reactions to it also since she's been an infant....

Would you still blow smoke in our faces?

That would be tantamount to putting a gun to someone almost. :sad2:

I've never seen such a thing. Someone please email or PM me a pic!

I smoke. I am an American citizen with the same rights as Non Smokers. I will smoke in my car if I want to. I will NOT put my windows up on my car if I don't want to. I will flick my ashes out the window IF I want to. (BTW What are ashes flicked out a window doing to your car that would hurt it? :confused3 )

I WILL NOT smoke where it is prohibited. I DO NOT leave cigarett butts on the ground (I will scrape the lit end on the bottom of my shoe and put the butt in a trash receptical, or if none is available,I will put it into my pocket or in the plastic wrap on the cigarett package and put it in my purse.)

How about when I have my windows down and they fly into my car? Have you ever had an ash fly into your eye?

Last night, while driving to the mall, I was behind a PT Cruiser with the following message written on its back window in soap or shoe polish or whatever...

"YOU HAVE NO ARGUMENT -- SMOKING IS MURDER!!!!"

I thought that was kind of extremist.

Discuss....

I am thinking since it was written on the car (not a bumper sticker) that Someone other than the car owner wrote this on the car!!!! :confused3
And YES it is EXTREME!!!!
The fumes coming from the car are more dangerous!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks -- I've already gotten 2 PMs. I'm good now, thanks.

I don't smoke. Never have. Never will. There is no smoking allowed in my house or my car. My husband smoked since he was 13, but he's been on the patch for the past month.

My parents both smoke. I can't stand to visit their house for any length of time because of the smell. I refuse to shower before I go over there because I know I'll just have to shower again once I get home. And once I do get home, the bottle of febreze comes out to spray any coat/jacket I may be wearing. They have an air filter, but despite what they think, it doesn't work to eliminate the odor.

My FIL smokes. MIL does not. When they were here for a visit last fall, MIL said "it's so nice that (hubby) doesn't smoke in your car". I said, "he's not allowed to. This is my car." She said that FIL smokes in her new car and I told her that she should have told him as soon as she brought it home that he's not allowed to smoke in it. It's her car, not his, so she makes the rules. But she won't do that.

This summer, they're renting a place on the Jersey shore and asked us to spend the week with them. They had a rent a place that allows smoking. I asked why. I was told that because FIL smokes, we had to get a place that allows smoking. I said "no we don't. He doesn't have to smoke in the house." Of course I was wrong.

I've told hubby that we will not be spending much time in that house because I can not stand the smell. It gets into my hair and clothes. It hurts my eyes, nose and throat and basically makes me miserable. This is not how I want to spend my vacation. And now, I'm trying to find a good air filter that we can use in our bedroom at the rental so I'll actually be able to breathe some decent air and get a decent night's sleep. If all I smell is stale smoke, I'll be sleeping in my car.

Any other time i would laugh it off, but we buried my beautiful 46yo cousin last week, dead from lung cancer caused by second hand smoke. There is a 9yo boy in Baltimore who will never again have a mother. The murderer? her father, a life-long chain smoker... and he has to live with that. :sad2:

My point was, maybe this person just lost a husband/wife/sister/brother/mother/father/child.....someone they loved died from smoking and it was wrote in anger and grief. We just don't know.

That is good, because the only picture I have is the one in my brain from seeing this on a truck!!!
