Extra tippin

The prepaid tips aren't enough?

I don't think they are for some, especially your room hostess, and the assistant server. We find those two positions are probably the hardest working ones of your assigned crew.

Forward tipping happens alot in all inclusive resorts in Europe. Places like Greece, Turkey, Spain etc.

All Inclusive would include local Beer Wine an Spirits. Some people will often give a waiter tip at the start of each day to ensure that they are served their wine first at dinner, and are never missed out when they come around the pool for drinks orders.

This is annoying as for one I believe in tipping after I have received good service. If enough people forward tip, it would affect the service I and people like be get.

We always add additional money to the envelopes we give to our servers/hostess only if we feel they went above the norm. Some trips we have and some we have not.

Same here. We always add cash as additional tips in the envelopes with the gratuity printouts. We also get some $1s and $5s for handling our baggage and room service (Though we still have not tried yet, we are always prepared!). We bring 1 kg candies for signing our two items and may bring extras this time for guest services if we need time change on ticketed events. We will probably tip our first Palo brunch and dinner in cash. We are planning to bring extra cash for excursions such as bus drivers and tour guides. Have fun planning!

I have read that crew members in some ships rarely get fresh fruit or vegetables. I do not know if this is true on the Disney ships. I have always just done extra cash. with magazines and candy for the club/lab CMs. But, I wonder if CMs would like a bag of oranges rather than a bag of candy.

Those who went beyond the call got a 20 in the envelope along with the pre-paid card. Everybody likes a little cash.

I would just do cash magazines an candy there are some restrictions on fruit and food. They are looked after well by DCL.

I think cash is the best. That is just mho though. We did get our stateroom host some candy at one of the ports after he went above and beyond and he acted like he was thankful, so I am going to assume he was not putting on an act and if he was, oh well. We still tipped well at the end. On one cruise, we did just tip the normal for our dining room staff, they were just short of being inept (one of the first Fantasy sailings, some were still learning), but it was not the traditional Disney service we had come to expect, I also don't think the dining room host visited our table even once. So yes, sometimes the prepaid gratuities are enough.

I reward service when it is at least good and hopefully excellent. I am sure, however, that the staff will gladly accept whatever you choose to give them, as any gracious person would. What they choose to do with it at the point it becomes theirs is up to them.

As far as how they are treated by DCL, I think fairly well, since we have been cruising with Disney for 8 years and some of the staff are still working on the ships. Yes, it can get lonely, but obviously the pay is good enough to compensate for the time away from family and other such issues. Not saying DCL is perfect, but show me an employer that is. :)
