DD20 is staying in a separate room with her aunt. Will we be able to get an extra stateroom key for our suite so she can use it as well?

Does any one know if it can be used to swipe for photos? If so, that would be great so her photos can be on our stateroom if we buy the CD.

I would love to know if it's possible to use the extra card for photos...

From our experience in the past it is strictly for room access, no charging privileges on it, so don't think it would work for swiping for photos but obviously ask at guest services when you get there.

Just like a regular hotel room key...only room access.

Do we ask for the extra room keys at check in or do we have to go to Guest services to do this? We are traveling with our daughter and granddaughters. One of the kids will be in our daughter's room and one in our room. We would have to have keys for both rooms, as would our daughter.

I was traveling with teens in 2 rooms and wanted access to both rooms. I asked at check in and was told I'd have to get it from GS after boarding...which is what happened with no problems. Others have reported being issued the blank key at check in.

One hint--be sure that EVERYONE is in your embarkation photo. They use that in addition to the KTTW as a facial recognition thing to determine what they put on your CD.

We had to go to guest services. Upon request (since we had two rooms) they gave each of the five of us a "spare" card for the other room (whichever of the two it was for each of us) so we each had keys to both rooms.

I doubt the spares could be used for photos. No charging priveleges, and they are completely blank cards- no identifying markings on them at all ...no names or room numbers or anything, just a blank white DCL card. (we used sharpies we got in our FE to write the corresponding room numbers on them).

Not a good idea to write a room number on a key! It's one thing for a stranger to find a key, and completely another to tell the finder where the lock is.

Use a name or set of initials - something meaningless to anyone outside your group.

FYI: If you have two key cards back to back the tap to open your cabin door won't work.
Also be sure when you leave or get back on the ship you have the card with your name on it not the blank one. Everyone needs their key card to get off and on the ship. Those 18 and older need the key card and a photo ID at all ports including Castaway Cay.

Though the thread is old, just as a note...

If the daughter and aunt were staying in a non-concierge cabin, the adult (she is over 18) daughter would NOT be entitled to use the concierge lounge and other benefits. Nor would the aunt. Just in case anyone was thinking about it as a way to save money and get all the perks.

I know this thread is 7 years old, but, based on our experience on the Fantasy, you will not have to get a second key any more. For us, they just reprogrammed our keys so we could open either door with our key.

Given that this thread is "old", I just want to make sure I'm following...if I'm traveling with my family and my parents are in another cabin, ALL of us should be in the embarkation photo (the one they take at check-in or right before you board--sorry, it's late and I can't think straight anymore)?

I believe that is old info. Who you include in the embarkation photo is entirely up to you. If you will be boarding together and want a group shot, do it together. If arriving at the port separately (and potentially boarding at different times), or just wish to have separate embarkation photos, it won't have any particular bearing on Shutters.

In your situation, any pictures of just grandma and grandpa are not included on a photo CD purchased for your stateroom. If someone from your stateroom is also in the picture, it will be included on the CD. The grandparents have the option of purchasing a CD for their room at a discount; that will include pictures of grandma, grandpa, with or without anyone else.

Enjoy your cruise!
