I brought a second pair of sneakers my last trip and I was grateful. It’s just poured most of one day and I didn’t care about wet shoes because I knew I had a dry pair for the next day. I don’t want two pairs wet in the same day. I also bring a pair of sandals that dry quickly, so they are another choice, I can’t wear the sandals all day or I end up with sore feet, legs, hips, and back, but I can handle a couple miles in them to give me a quick dry choice.
As soon as I got back to the room with my soaked through sneakers, I pulled out the liners, loosened the laces, and ran the hair dryer in them a few minutes to get them started in the drying process. I probably could have worn them the next day, but I wore the other pair. The next day after that they were clearly fully dry. Some folks are willing to put them in a dryer, but I don’t do that with my shoes.
Some trips I refuse to get wet sneakers and plan accordingly. I can dodge brief showers and keep them dry enough most days. But this last trip that just wasn’t going to be possible as it was going to rain most of the day a couple of days and it really did. If you have the option to “just get wet,” touring the parks in the rain isn’t so bad. It’s just when you are soaked and you walk into very cold air conditioned spaces that can be hard as you get cold!
