According to the Adult Side of Disney, new security measures are going to be put into place at the entrances of Walt Disney World parks beginning on Friday, December 17. Right now, Disney only has bag checks at the entrance of their theme parks, but it looks like more are on the way.
Reports state that some of the changes will include scanners at the entrance of each Disney Park, and these scanners will be similar to what are at airports. The scanners are metal detectors, and also check for anything else that someone may have on their person.
Not only will there be the addition of scanners, but Disney security personnel is also going to have hand-held wands to do additional scans as needed.
For some time now, Walt Disney World has had armed police officers on site to help with security. There are going to be even more police officers patrolling the park entrance areas, and K-9 units as well.
While these changes will be happening at the entrances of Walt Disney World theme parks, there will be some other things being altered inside of the parks, as well.
Intercot is reporting that there will be no more toy guns sold or allowed anywhere on Disney property by the end of this week. Also, Disney will strictly enforce the policy of no guests, aged 14 or older, will be allowed to wear masks.
Did I hear the Universal requires phones being stored in a locker for some rides? They tried the metal detectors at Kings Island in Ohio just after 9/11. They were horribly annoying and slowed pedestrian traffic to a crawl. They removed them a few years ago.
Ultimately it's security theater. Knives, guns can easily be hidden in the stroller tubes which would set off a metal detector anyway so it's up to the officer doing the checking to catch it unless we're going to xray everything too.
What surprised me were the metal detectors on the Dragon Challenge ride at Universal to "prevent cell phone loss" - Ok... REALLY!?

Its to prevent your phone from flying out of your pocket and possibly hitting someone else. A few years ago someone was really badly injured when something flew into their eyes on Dragon Challenge. Even though there are nets etc, it doesn't catch everything.
We have noticed an increased presence by Orange County Sheriff's Deputies an all the parks as well as several K-9 units roaming through the parks. It very obvious.
and yet they let me ride with flip flops... on my feet...
I believe they ask you to remove your flip flops and sit on them... its one thing I will never understand on these boards. Almost every time I try to actually answer a question on here, I always get some smarty pants rude reply.. seriously, I was just trying to explain why they ask you to remove your phone.
Has someone trained a dog to detect slot machines that are about to pay off?I was at the Wynn at Las Vegas last year and a K9 unit was walking around the casino sniffing around the slots... That was a little more disconcerting.![]()
