Extra Magic Hour- when should you leave your hotel?

For example, If MK opens at 9:00, I can get in at 8:00, when should I leave my hotel- staying at AKL. Not sure when they actually open the gates, and how long it takes to get there- when buses start running etc.

Plan to arrive at the park 15-30 minutes before the gates drop. When I went to AK, they were very precise about the opening, probably b/c they scheduled a mini-show behind the turnstyles right before letting people in. But I would allow the buffer in case transportation is slow and so you can get closer to the turnstyles.

The buses usually start running a half hour before the opening time of Extra Magic Hour. So we got in the habit of getting out to the bus stop 10 minutes before that first bus was due to come. In your example, the buses would start running for MK at 7:30 AM. So we would get to the bus stop by 7:20 AM in order to catch the first bus that came along. That always got us to each park in plenty of time for its opening.

When we did Extra Magic Hour in October, we always were on the 1st bus from the resort, so we got to the bus stop around 7 am, and the bus came shortly after.
