Hi,

I'm not sure whether to book extra legroom seats or exit row seats on our Virgin flight in September, flying on a 747 from Gatwick. If anyone has done both could you please give me your thoughts on which is the best. I was going to book the exit row seats but someone said a lot of people congregate by them so i'm not so sure now.

Also could anyone tell me if there is a window by the exit row seats.

Any info really appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Lyndon :)

Exit row seats are by the doors so you usually have to look behind to see out the window.

We used to like the exit row as you can get up with bothering anyone else but everyone has to be over 16 so they are no good for us now.

The ELR seats are well worth it IMO. Particularly when you glance to the seating configuration on the row next to you and see how squished some of the taller people look lol!

We have booked extra legroom seats in the past. The only thing to consider is you may be split up. We are a party of four (2 adults and 2 children ) We have been split on our last few trips as the config was in rows of 3 seats. So it worked out that DW sat with DD and I sat with DS in separate rows with one other person. Its not a show stopper but it is something to consider if your a family. Although I appreciate there are no guarantees you will be sat together in regular economy anymore. The extra space is nice.

Oh I never though of issues with taller people, DBF is 6ft2"! He won't appreciate being squashed for 8 hours!:scared1:

There are five of us going, four adults and one child.

My son, his daughter and his partner are booking extra legroom seats, but my wife and myself are not sure whether to book extra legroom or exit row seats. The extra legroom seats are in rows 39-43, and directly in front of them in row 38 is a exit row. We were hoping that if my son booked the extra legroom and we booked a exit row, that maybe Virgin would keep us together by putting us in row 38 and my son in row 39, but we know this is not guaranteed. The only other option is to book regular economy seats and pay to sit together [ unless Virgin had to split us for some reason ]. I know we would be losing the extra space , but maybe upon reflection it would be worth it.

Thank you everyone for your input

I am a bit confused about these extra leg room seats I have been told 39-43 but when looking up seatguru these appear to be standard seats am I doing something wrong. There are 9 of us so booking these will cost £450 - do people think it is worth that. Also what will be the chances of getting seats together on the glasgow flight in august if we don't reserve them

Hi,

To find the seat layout from Gatwick I went on the Virgin Atlantic website. At the top of the page I clicked on Virgin experience, then I clicked on Our Fleet, followed by Boeing 747-400 London Gatwick and Manchester based, it shows the seat map on here.

I couldn't see the Glasgow based plane on the Virgin website, but when I was on the phone to them a few minutes ago about my own seating , I asked what the layout was for extra legroom on the Glasgow flight in August and he said it was the same as the Gatwick layout 39-43. I would phone them just to make sure, but that is what they told me.

As for the chances of sitting together without reserving the seats I wouldn't like to say. This will be down to every individual to decide whether to take the chance or not [ good luck with that ].

Hope this helps

Lyndon :)
