Some info:
Digital Equipment Corporation and Compaq "merged" to form one company. The PR crap said the companies formed a partnership but it was more like Compaq bought Digital Equipment Corporation. Eventually, things like payroll and benefits were handled by Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation seemed to quietly disappear. I left the company before that process was complete.
Hewlett-Packard later bought Compaq. Compaq as a company doesn't exist anymore, it is Hewlett-Packard. It's not a subsidiary of HP, the buyout was another "merge". HP does still sell some Compaq brand computers. I recall seeing the Compaq Pressario on their web site. I know this because my husband works for HP - not Digital Equipment Corporation or Compaq like he used to.
As for the "Powered by HP" stuff goes, it just means there is some agreement between the Disney company and HP where HP sells computers (and probably some software and support services) to Disney and Disney advertizes the fact that they use HP computers. I doesn't necessarily mean Disney uses only HP brand computers, just that HP equipment is used by Disney and HP sponsors some Disney products. There may be cases where HP employees do develop software as a team with Disney. I believe DisneyQuest had Digital Equipment Corporation employees on their development team.
Think of it as being similar to your Dell or HP computer having an Intel Inside sticker on it. Intel didn't make your computer, just part of it. Dell or HP made the computer.
