Dont belive me? Click here and see for yourself.

It is at the top of the VMK home page, and it says "Powered by HP"

This means that VMK is not run by fun-loving Disney staff, This probaly means that VMK hedquarters is in an HP building!! :furious:

clicked and looked farther:

This Was Under DISNEY.COM

The awe-inspiring technology of HP servers gives Disney.com all the magic it needs – from running the Disney-branded electronic greeting card system to powering Toontown Online, a multi-player online gaming environment for children young and old.

this does not mean they are workers there but vmk user a HP Server as well as the other places listed. this is my opinion but i think it is just ran by the HP Server.

<sigh> dont read so much into everything. So they use HP Servers - that does not mean that HP is running Disney. And... whats the difference? If Disney contracted HP to run it for them, then they still are overseen by disney personnel. I am just confuised as to why someone would get SO UPSET and ANGRY at a phrase like that, and then go and read so much more into it.

Because this means that HP is running all of disney online. VMK is created by disney, and VMK is online.

And that still makes all of us wonder; WHERE ARE THE D*** VMK STAFF FREAKIN' LOCATED!?

It's the equivalent of using GE lightbulbs in your house. It doesn't mean
you work for GE if you have them lighting your house.

HP is a sponser of Disney. HP is the name sponsering the Mission Space ride at Epcot. Disney gets all their computers from HP. HP has nothing to do with Disney besides a sponser.
VMK Staff is mostly located in Cali. and some VMK_ and Host_ are in other parts of the US. The testers and producers of VMK are in Cali.

No - all it means is Disney is using HP computers to run their programs on.

I happen to be "powered by Dell" ;)

Oh no I'm running HP servers at my school (work) does that mean that I'm a HP employee. Nope, I work for the school board but purchased HP servers.

Lol, I'm happily powered by HP and loving it!

Seriously, though HP makes great stuff so, if anything, I approve. :thumbsup2

I have a compaq, a subsidary of HP, that runs great. Granted, I did take a jigsaw to the side of it and put in an acrylic window, and some blue LEDs but as far as hardware it's sufficient, although when I am done with it nothing will be the original......

hmmm powered by? I guess we are all a little confused, as the word powered is confusing. Super, there are HP servers, dell machines, intel and AMD cpu's, so what is the true meaning of powered by? If you ask me, everything is powered by the outlet on the wall, which is powered by the utility company, which is powered by oil, coal, atoms, or what other power source they use, so maybe we are powered by earth? Just a funny tid bit i thought i would bring up while i am bored at work. :)

it's just one of those things like every movie you see that has a laptop the laptop is always apple

Lol, that, my friend, is called product placement ;) And that is all about money. Me and my friends (maybe because we're marketing/ad junkies) love to spot product placement. Or what's even better is when they try to get away with it by altering the labels...

Some info:
Digital Equipment Corporation and Compaq "merged" to form one company. The PR crap said the companies formed a partnership but it was more like Compaq bought Digital Equipment Corporation. Eventually, things like payroll and benefits were handled by Compaq and Digital Equipment Corporation seemed to quietly disappear. I left the company before that process was complete.

Hewlett-Packard later bought Compaq. Compaq as a company doesn't exist anymore, it is Hewlett-Packard. It's not a subsidiary of HP, the buyout was another "merge". HP does still sell some Compaq brand computers. I recall seeing the Compaq Pressario on their web site. I know this because my husband works for HP - not Digital Equipment Corporation or Compaq like he used to.

As for the "Powered by HP" stuff goes, it just means there is some agreement between the Disney company and HP where HP sells computers (and probably some software and support services) to Disney and Disney advertizes the fact that they use HP computers. I doesn't necessarily mean Disney uses only HP brand computers, just that HP equipment is used by Disney and HP sponsors some Disney products. There may be cases where HP employees do develop software as a team with Disney. I believe DisneyQuest had Digital Equipment Corporation employees on their development team.

Think of it as being similar to your Dell or HP computer having an Intel Inside sticker on it. Intel didn't make your computer, just part of it. Dell or HP made the computer.

Santa Monica. The game is run by a company called Sulake that makes the Habbo online games. When I learned this I went to their site and saw their job postings and figured out where the VMK division was located.

I believe that this company is paid by Disney to run VMK as a public relations/advertising tool for Disney parks and products.
