This thread is a spin-off of NEE's "Would you be interested in this kind of swap?" thread.

The remark was made that we all have duplicates of certain rides/attractions that we can't use or don't need but we do need more of certain ones. For example, I have tons of Tomorrowland Speedway elements and I will NEVER need them but I could totally use more MK, Donald and Stitch stuff.

I am proposing a trade thread that would help us get these fabulous elements into the hands of those that can use them instead of leaving them floundering in bags.

I was thinking we could take pics of the stuff we would like to trade and post them. Then, if we see something we like, we can post/PM that person and propose a trade.

So, what do y'all think? Any ideas/input/questions? I'm still working this out (obviously) so input is appreciated.

:woohoo:

GREAT IDEA!!! I know I have extra stuff from "flaker" swaps, and I hate to use the same thing twice... I also have a few "prototypes" that I could part with...

Sounds like a good idea! Is this something that could be an ongoing type of swap that extras could be posted as desired?

And, what this would force me to do, is sort through my past swaps and organize them. Believe it or not, they're still mostly in the boxes they came in down in the (dry) basement.

The things I would be trading are all lovely, but it's the subject matter that I personally can't use either because I don't have (human) kids or because the attractions or characters themselves don't appeal to me enough to do a lot of layouts. Of course, I don't do layouts, I just swap!

That is a great way of explaining things. Human kids. Funny. :rotfl: I, of course, know you have four legged kids.:rolleyes1

I too would be interested. I'm sure I have stuff that could go to use in someone's book instead in the basket in my office. It is a sin to waste all of that talent!

Hey, YM - is that a new tag?

Yes, I noticed it a couple of days ago. I'm not crazy about it, and I think there were better possibilities but it took 8 years to get one, so I'm not complaining....much!!

Like everyone else I too have TONS of stuff. Some I will never use although I love it all. I will snap some pictures this weekend as I am GOING to force myself to organize my stuff. It looks like a tornado hit my scrap cubby. I am like a whirl wind when I scrap.

PLUS! my kids will be here a week from today! I am so excited :cool1:

SO glad y'all like this idea! I went through my stash last night and found tons of stuff that I just haven't been able to use. For example, I had 5 sets of Italy elements for Epcot. I've already used two sets. It will be a while before I will go again so I've kept one more set for that next trip and I have some great stuff that I'm sure someone else would love and could probably use immediately.

YM said exactly what I've been thinking. The pieces I am looking to trade are all quite lovely. For example, I have one GORGEOUS set of all Bazzill elements for Al's Toy Barn at MGM. I thought I recalled that it is some sort of pizza place with video games that is geared for kids and DH and I avoided it like the plague the last time we were there. I can't even begin to imagine when I will be at WDW with kids so I know I will have no need for this. It is just so lovely that someone else could use it immediately.

Also, as YM said, I am planning to set this up as an on-going trade thread that I can hopefully get stickied at the top. That way we can continue to share our talents and stash with each other.

So, I was thinking this could be kind of a bartering system. Something like:

Barterer 1: Here are three elements for Al's Toy Barn that I have available. Let me know what you would like to trade for this.
Barterer 2: Oooooo, I would like that! I have three elements from Toontown or a 4" Donald paper piecing I made from my Cricut.
Barterer 1: I'll take the paper piecing please! I'm PMing you my personal info now.

Each pair of barterers would work out their own postage and mailing. I could keep an updated listing in the first post of items available to barter with a post listing.

Sound good?

sounds like a good old Yankee Swap from the back of Yankee Magazine!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I am almost finished with my sorting my stash so I may have some to contribute.

I love this idea! I will go through my stuff to figure what I have to contribute. It will be up to the barterers to decide if it is a fair trade, right? I mean, I wouldn't expect that a small tag and a page kit would be "equal".

This is a great idea. I like the suggestion of a point system to keep things kind of "equal".

(I call dibs on Al's Toy Barn! :lmao: )

This system sounds great. I agree with YM completely - the pieces I have in mind are beautiful, I just don't have a use for them right now.

And Buffy you're right this is exactly like a Yankee Swap - what's a Californian doing thinking it up? ;)

So how does points value work?

Also, are we bartering on list or PMs? If it's on list the thread will be way long!

After things are "sold" update the original post to reflect it so no one else barters for that item?

I am going to go through my stuff too. I have some great items that I don't have pictures for.

I know a few years ago swaps used to be on a points system. I'm not sure what it was though. I would also say make a new thread that we can get stickied and so it like the Die Cut Database, kind of an ongoing thing.

In Yankee magazine they had 2 types of swaps.
1) I have 2 TOT toppers, will swap for 2 Buzz Lightyear file folders

2) I have 2 TOT toppers will swap for what have you....

1 is if you are looking for something specific and 2 is random, then you talk to anyone interested.

I'm a Texan! A Texan that just happens to live in California but still a Texan! I will always be a Texan despite the fact that DH won't let me move home. A Texan, you hear? Have you noticed that I'm a little sensitive about that? :lmao:

BTW, what the heck is a "Yankee Swap"? :goodvibes

Anyway, I did a point system back when I hosted the ABC book swap. Here's the breakdown I used:
.5 point - 1 Embellished square (double matted)
1 point - 1 Tag (double matted) must include either fibers or eyelets in the holes
1 point - Frame (embellished)
1 point - Photo Mat (double matted/embellished)
1 point - Journal Box - (double matted) at least a 2x2 writing area
2 points - Shaped Eyelets/Brads/Buttons/Charms AND fiber (6 per person AND 1 yard)
2 points - Matted Poem or song Lyric (double matted/embellished) at least
4x4 space (no handwriting please)
2 points - Shaker Box
2 points - Paper Piecing

The swap required that you do a title topper AND items totaling 2 points. Also, it was designed for an 8x8 book so we would want to change the sizes. Obviously, we would need to add to the list since we do more varied elements now.

And yes, it would be up to the barterers to decide if the swap is equal. I would think that bartering would be done via PM and then a post to the thread when a barter is complete so the list can be updated. I can do two listings on the first post - Available and Completed. It doesn't matter to me if someone is looking for a specific thing or just a general trade. I can track that on the first post also.

I was kind of thinking this could be open for more than just swap items. For example, Cricut paper piecings and store-bought sticker packs would be welcome also.

What do y'all think?

I don't think it would matter as long as the people trading were happy. It is pretty much a PIF style swap that is continuous and has many branches.
