I was told by my travel agent that if all of the credits are not used on the dining plan card, then a souvinier or something can be selected from a store.

I didn't see this in the FAQ, is this true?

We took home nicely boxed Mickey cookies as souveniers with our extra credits last time. They were a pretty good value.

hmmm,
mixed signals.

I'm sure ascardino used a snack credit to purchase the cookies.

You can't walk into a gift shop pick up a photo album and use dining plan credits to pay for it.

You can go into a food court or the candy shop and use snack credits to purchase items to take home.

Really, the only one with mixed signals is the TA.

bicker's right - dining credits can't be applied to the purchase of an item (that was possible briefly last September under certain conditions because too many DDP participants found themselves with nowhere to eat, due to lack of planning {based at least in part on insufficient information }).

ascardino's also right - they took home 'nicely boxed Mickey cookies as a souvenir' because they paid for this edible souvenir with a snack credit.

I did not mean to mislead or confuse. Just offering the option of what we did if you want to use a credit for a souvenier.

I did read on a discussion board somewhere...............about a family that had a lot of credits left (sit-down included) Their resort did let them pick some items from the gift shop (non-food) It may have been just one of those special magical moments?? Wish I could find that thread...............

I do think that was an exception. I have also heard that if you have counter-service meals left they """may"""" let you get a few snack credits instead (so you can bring home more Mickey cookies/pretzels/jellybeans/Rice Krispie Chocolate Mickey Ear bars)

Yes, Disney does sometimes make special exceptions for people, especially people adversely affected by conditions substantially more than the average guest.

Do read the FAQ -- it outlines the exception some folks were granted ever before the free dining period last year. Note, though, that it was their hotel front desk granting those exceptions, not the restaurants.

Last year during free dining to ease the congestion at TS rest. they were offering some "perks". We were able to trade a TS credit for a CS meal plus a lanyard and tradeable pin, the other option was a poster. You would redeem your TS meal while paying for your CS meal and they would give a certificate valid for one of the additonal offers. Not sure if it will be offered this year, but it worked out great for us as we had 1TS meal left on our last day.

We received a paper with our Disney package that says:

"As a special offer during your stay, if you choose to dine in any Quick Service locations using your Table Service entitlements, you eill receive a certificate redeemable for your choice of one of the following: two (2) snacks, a collectible Disney Trading Pin and lanyard (pin design may vary), or a "Where the Magic Lives" poster featuring Mickey and his friends."

Which year was that, beccalines?

That was 2006, we had the same offer, but we already had more TS than credits so we didn't take them up on that offer.

Did you get that notice from a TA, or from Disney directly? I am wondering if perhaps some rogue TA is sending out last year's notification, presuming it would be true this year as well.

If you haven't received it directly from Disney, I'd not trust that notification until someone does.

Yup, okay. We've read another reports of TAs (or maybe it is the same TA) putting out a notice like that. Don't trust it, unless it comes directly from Disney. They've taken measures this year to ensure that those things will not be necessary for them to offer this year. (If you arrive at WDW and find that those things are not available to you, blame your TA.)
