Extra Adult?

A friend of mine is planning her first trip to WDW and is leaving in 2 weeks. She has a fall fantasy rate with ultimate hopper passes for herself, her mother, and her three year old. She also has a one year old daughter. She was orgianlly at CBR but with the closure is now at Poly. Last minute her sister and two year old nephew want to come along. She dosen't think that she can add them to package because it included tickets and they don't want ultimate hopper but is worried about having an extra adult without paying for it. I told her that they could probably add the extra adult charge at the poly itself when she arrived, but she is worried that if she can't it may cost her alot of money to add them. By the way her mother thinks they just shouldn't tell anyone that they have another adult. I am sorry this is so long but I told her that someone from this board would know what to do.

I don't know what the rules are for the Fall Fantasy package, but I think she'd probably be okay adding the other adult after she got there. She'd probably have to pay the extra charge (I think it's $25/day at the deluxes), but she'll get the extra room key.

I'm pretty sure you can add on another person with having to buy the pass for that person. I hate that "Don't tell anyone" attitude, especially when they're modeling that behavior to little kids. (So, when the kid's a teenager, they just won't let Mom find out about the things they're doing that Mom wouldn't approve of.)

Anyway, back to the subject at hand, have your friend just call and ask if they could add another adult for the $10/night. If they say no, your friend can just say, "Oh, okay; never mind then." (Then they can decide how to proceed as far as what they want to teach their kids.)

We've done it both ways. If you tell them ahead of time, you will be charged the extra $25 for the other adult and her name will be added to the room reservation.

Another time we went, some Jacksonville relatives decided to come join us rather spur of the moment. We actually did the honest thing and told the Boardwalk check-in person that 2 more adults would be staying in the room and asked what the total would be, and the clerk asked if they needed room keys. We said no, and he said, oh, well, don't worry about it then. He said it wasn't a problem, and there'd be no extra charge.

I'm sure like many things you get at Disneyworld, it all depends on who you talk to that day. But I'd suggest being honest, after you arrive, not before. Maybe you'll have the same luck we had.

This is one of the few policies at Disney that really irks me. I understand the cost-cuts and completely don't care about loss of EE and hours reductions - it hasn't meant beans to me and I've been back 3 times since 9/11. I think their strategies are good and have had no effect on me whatsoever. BUT charging extra for a room that's paid for really bothers me, whether it's Disney or any other resort hotel. Heck, you should be paying for the room, not by the number of people staying in it.

For us, it gives us a reasonable cost for a deluxe room to split the bill 4 ways. Even without the extra $50 for 2 extra people (taking up a bed that would otherwise be empty), we're collectively spending more money than we would if we got 2 rooms at the All-Star, which is sometimes necessary when we are with people who aren't comfortable arriving with only 2 names on the reservation. Anyhow... just getting that off my chest.

We've called Disney several times about adding people to trips without any negative consequences to our reservations. Disney will tell you what choices your friend has and the cost of each option.

and if you can have as many children as you want without paying extra, isn't that just age-discrimination that they charge more for extra adults?

I can't think of a single thing that would legitimize charging more for an adult than for a kid. In fact, adults probably aren't as hard on the facilities as kids are.

Actually, Disney is offering a benefit to staying at their hotels by not charging for children. Many hotels do choose to allow children to stay free, but it's standard practice to charge extra for over 2 adults. Some motels charge extra for more than 1 adult. It does cost the hotel more when 3 people stay in a room instead of just 1 or 2. The extra person uses towels, pool space, etc. While it would be easy to justify charging extra for children as well, Disney chooses not to as a way to bring families to their resorts.

Actually you can't have as many "free" children as you want. There are still fire, health and safety codes that all hotels including WDW have to abide by. This regulates how many actual people can be in any particular room. This is determined by things like square footage, location, safety precautions.

Since you are staying on a PACKAGE I would call first. I thought I saw on another post that they were going to charge someone 800 for an extra child being added to a package.
