Extra Adult Fee Increasing for 2018

Because those 2 extra adults could be paying for their own room. The children cannot.

If the "adults" are teens I know mine couldn't have paid for their own room. They were in school, and only had part time jobs. 'bout the only thing they paid for was their own suvies

If you have 4 adults in a DVC villa you are paying cash through Disney do you have to pay the extra fee?

As I wrote in my first post, the extra adult fee does not apply to villas or suites, it doesn't matter how you are paying.

Agreed. But the hotel/resort doesn't care if they can pay for their own room, just the fact that once they're 18 they are able to book their own room.

Most hotel rates are based on double occupancy. Some charge for more than 2 of any age.

I'm just curious, but I would think kids can be more work cleaning up a room, etc.

Because of space and because of money. Fitting four grown adults in a 2 double bed room is kind of ridiculous, and the people who do it are usually not families with teens- they're young backpackers or just generally cheap people who are out to save a buck. (I mean, I've done it myself, so no judgement, I just think hotels charge after 2 people for that reason. Extra keys, extra water, extra amenities used.)

And then obviously just money. I know of a few campgrounds that charge for extra adults too. Not because of firecode but because they know people will pay for another site if they make it hard for them to split a site. 2 adults per room is a pretty universal rule.

I think Disney is pretty generous with kids as it is. I don't think they count babies in room occupancy. Some hotels do- that was a big problem when my parents had their third kid.

No. Just another reason for hotels to jack up the price, including Disney. Just like "resort fees" or "parking fees" or "rent a rollaway fees". More $$$$$.

Every Hilton or Marriott we have stayed in with our adult daughter does charge. Were the extra adults registered guests?

I work for Hilton and we don't charge for extra people. Maybe it's just for properties around major tourism?

Two different rates come up when I book Hiltons for one vs. two people. But it is local, and locally, I guess you could say is a tourist area. But I know Honors rules state you can have one person free of charge which implies that it's the rule rather than the exception to charge for additional people.

I know that a motel 6 I stay at has extra person rates posted on the door of the room, but they don't charge the prices listed- it's in the middle of nowhere so that's probably why. So I think location does matter.
