My brother is scheduled to return from Iraq after serving there a year and would like to take his wife to WDW or on a Disney cruise when he returns. I believe the Military Salute passes deal expired in December and am hoping that they would allow those who were actually serving in the war to take advantage of the offer when they returned. Does anyone know if they would do this?

I would assume the intention of this program was to reward those serving in the war - not just those who were lucky enough not to be deployed. I know they let immediate families go without the servicemen if they were in Iraq during the promotion but his wife didn't want to go without him and they don't have any children yet. His wife is Australian and has never been to WDW so wanted to go with him.

Any ideas?

hey

as far as i'm aware, the special expired on dec19 and there are no extensions......too bad....wouldnt it be nice! i think its time for another military special!!

You could always try calling the Shades of Green ticket office at 407-824-1014 (they are open from 8am to 9pm daily) and see what discounts they are offering. I know they are not doing the Military Salute that you are speaking of, but it is my understanding that there is some type of discount avalaible for militarty tickets through Shades of Green.

My FIL is finally out of Iraq - but still not quite home yet. He has been gone since last January - so he was never able to participate in the Military discount. They always stay at the SOG, but the discounted park tickets were a really great deal. I actually emailed Disney a couple of weeks ago to ask if they would be extending the offer - & they pretty much said not at the current time & referred me to the SOG phone # for a discounted hotel. It's great for anyone that got to go, but most soldiers that were deployed were gone for the entire length of the Disney special. Doesn't seem fair. If anyone hears about an extension - I'd love to hear about it too! Thanks!:)

My mother called the old phone number for the military salute and was transferred to someone who told her that the special is over and they only have the Shades of Green discounts. Those discounts are nothing in comparison to the Military Salute passes. I'm not even sure if they are cheaper than a Disney Club or annual pass discount.

There are a lot of soldiers coming back after a year in Iraq who I am sure would have loved to be rewarded for their commitment. Oh well - I do hope they consider another offer!
