I am heading to WDW for a week in March. I have some of the trip (March 21-25) booked at one home resort (BWV) but ran out of those points so I am hoping to book the rest (March 25-28) at 7 month mark with AKL points.

My question is can I modify my original reservation on August 21 to add the remaining nights with the AKL points or do I have to wait until August 25 to book a separate reservation?

IIRC, you can extend with your AKL points on August 21. Be sure to check both contracts when you modify.

If that's wrong, someone will correct me.

^From the reports I have seen in the last few years, the above is correct, with the obvious limitation that there must be that additional availability for the nights you want when you try to reserve.

I've never thought of that. I've always booked at 11 months at HHI, then, since it always uses more points than we have at that resort, I wait until 7 months and book a separate vacation using other points. Then, at some point before the actual vacation, I do a chat to merge the 2 reservations. Modifying would be so much easier if I could just do that.

Yes, you absolutely can- as long as the 2 home resorts share the same UY. I’ve done this several times & it’s the best way to secure those harder to get reservations. I’ve even transferred points from one membership (UY) to another for this very purpose, as it truly does give you a solid advantage at the 7-month mark.
