Extending 10 day MYW tickets after using them

I just booked 2 rooms at Pop Century for 10 nites in Sept. with the free dining plan w/ 10 day MYW tickets with the waterparks/DQ upgrade (will get 6 wp/DQ visits), so theoretically would have 16 days worth of admissions to either a theme park, WP, or DQ.

We want to then stay an additional 7 nites in an off-site condo and use our remaining MYW ticket days during our condo stay, but the tickets expire 14 days after 1st use, and we'll be vacationing a total of 17 nights.

The CM who booked my package said that we could wait until we're there and have used 4 days of our tickets, then take the tickets to a guest services counter at one of the parks and add more days to each ticket for $1 per day per ticket, so then these days would still be "good" after the original 14 days have expired. I asked her to repeat this several times--I didn't believe her at first, or thought I must have misunderstood, but she insisted that this is doable.

Is this true?

Bumping, because I've never heard this. Would be very interesting if true.

It is reported that you can make your MYW tickets "never expire" tickets at any time by paying the amount to convert them withing the 14 days of first use. For 10 day tickets that would be alot, so this sounds much better.

What you're describing seems logical. I'm sure disney doesn't really mind extending the 14 day period a little if it's all part of the same vaction. What they're worried about is reuse of the tickets on a subsequent vacation. At $1 a day, it wouldn't make sense for most people to pay to extend, unless they were planning a return vacation in a month or something.

I've seen seashoreCM answer this question before, and the reply has been, "No." You cannot extend a MYW pass so you get more than 10 days of admission from it. The CM on the telephone was likely mistaken.

I also asked a question like this, extending a 10 day MYW non expire/hop ticket. Was told NO a DDT,and MK. It wasn't that I did not believe the first (few... ) CM's I asked... just wanted to make sure ! Cause 1 CM had said I could.... If you do manage to do this, great. I think that when a CM goes into the computer system the tranaction would be kicked back as not doable.. ? Hope I am wrong, so try it if you can!

You can't extend a 10 day ticket beyond 10 days of park use. You can only upgrade a ticket to a type of ticket Disney actually sells. You can, for example, have an 8 day ticket and upgrade it to a 10 day ticket because Disney sells a 10 day ticket. You can't take a 10 day ticket and add 3 days because that makes it a 13 day ticket which does not exist.

Think about the logic of it-does it make sense for Disney to allow people to "reload" 10 day tickets and keep adding days as they use them? Of course not, people would never use up all their ticket and would just keep adding days for a few dollars rather than buying 5, 7, 8 day tickets (as an example).

I believe the only thing you can change a 10 day ticket to is either 10 day, non-expiring or an annual pass. We're starting with a 10 day ticket so we can take advantage of the MYW dining, but then we're upgrading it to an annual pass.

I had a similar question for our trip last Dec & kept getting different answers from different CMs. I suggest calling WDW Ticket Research 407-566-4985. They can look up the value of any ticket & tell you exactly what is remaining on it & it's trade/credit value.

The only "credit" you would receive would be the value remaining on the tix; toward purchase of same/better MYW tix (couldn't drop down in type).

Basically, it's determined by taking the total amount you paid for the tix, dividing it by the number of days, and the portion leftover is your credit.

Example using a 7 day MYW prem ticket:

* You have used 3 days of major park & 1 plus. You can upgrade to a longer tix w/same features or better (can't drop to a base).

* Your conversion rate (X) is the cost of the ticket BEFORE the pluses are added on - no credit given for left over pluses.

* Your credit would only be ($X divided by 7) toward new ticket purchase.

It was indicated to us that this was a "one-time" courtesy extended to us (?).

I've read messages from CMs that indicate that this is not the case. Sounds like they made a special exception just for you, and other guests shouldn't expect to get such a credit.

Just to be clear, I don't think this is the question the original poster was asking. The OP is not asking to get anything extra out of the ticket -- like more than 10 days or more than 6 plusses. The OP merely wanted to know if the 14 day expiration could be extended. So I think some of the responses about valuing tickets for upgrades and adding days and features and stuff, while very helpful and interesting, are not really what the original question was about.

With a 17 day long vacation practically all spent at Disney (13 or more theme park days) you would be better off buying annual passes, even if you don't come back again within a year. The package tickets could be one day basic, and would be saved for future use,

With 12 or fewer days in the theme parks and if you don't want an AP, get a 10 day expiring pass together with any other kind of pass that fits (consider 7 or 10 day non-expiring), for each person.

This is roughly what you could do prior to 2006 to trade up the remains of tickets used more than 14 days ago towards new tickets with more days on them. The exchange rate when all is said and done is not all that great considering you must buy non-expiration on the new ticket. I don't know the exact formulas used in 2006. For trade up of tickets used more than 14 days ago towards annual passes the dollar value is short rated, not pro-rated. (If one day of a 7 day pass had been used, the remaining dollar value is much less than 6/7ths) In this case you are better off saving the old ticket for the future and paying all cash for an AP.

Yes, you should be able to add the non-expiring option after you arrive. You will go to Guest Services and pay the difference to add the non-expiring option to each of your tickets. That way they will last till the end of your 17-day vacation (lucky!). Enjoy your vacation.

That's how I interpreted it also. And the answer, I believe, is that you would need to purchase the non-expiry option. Then you can use your remaining days of theme park or water park admissions at any time, since they will not expire 14 days after first use of the ticket. I have never heard of any sort of a discounted way to do this (such as just paying $1 per day to delay the expiration for a brief period of time).

My recommendation would be to actually go to your resort's service desk (or guest services) upon arrival, and ask them. But I have a sneaky feeling they are going to tell you to purchase the non-expiration option (which they can add to your existing tickets at any point prior to expiration).

A little off topic but have they changed the number of plusses you get with a 10 ticket? We bought 10 PH & FUN NE passes in Jan and only got 5 days of plusses. Just wondering.

You cannot add more days to your MYW ticket beyond the 10. Bummer.

It will work out ok for us though; we arrive on Wed. 9/6 in the afternoon, so we just won't go to a park that day; so our tix won't be activated until Thurs. 9/7 and they will then be good THROUGH Thurs. 9/21 (I confirmed this w/ guest services). We leave early in the morning of Sat. 9/23, so we'll just have to find something else to do for our last day, Fri. 9/22. I'm sure we'll think of something!

I just wish the CM's were more consistant in the accuracy of the information they give to people!

This is unfortunate for us. We just need one more day on our passes, for our trip next Feburary, but they started as 10 day passes.

I think we're going to end up buying expiring passes for next year, and save our non-expiring days for a future year.
