First let me say HI to everyone! I am new here, and so glad to have found this place.

Has anyone ever used Extended Stay Deluxe Suites Lake Buena Vista? I am in the process of planning a graduation gift for my SS and his BFF for 2012. There will be four of us in all going on this vacation. (SS, SS;s BFF, DH and I )

We are planning to drive from our home to Orlando with the boys, which is about a 11 hour ride, all in one day and spend 3 days at WDW and 1 @ Universal, then we will drive over to Port Canaveral and cruise on a ship for 7 days.

I am starting to plan now becuase this is no small undertaking. That is a lot of days away from home, and a lot of feeding and entertaining two still teen boys.

From what I can tell from websbites and reviews this Extended stay place may be a GREAT way to get everything in there and on a budget too so there is more spending money in other areas. But my real question is, have any of you stayed at this place? And how did that work out for you?

I would stay away from any of the 'extended' type of places. Yes they are cheap but they also lure certain types of folks who you really don't want to be around.

Check on the Staybridge Suites in Lake Buena Vista. They have a hot breakfast and have 2BR/2BA suites which will be much more comfortable for you (I think they also have dinner certain nights of the week - included in the rate - all the other SS I've stayed at do). They also have a kitchen for snacks or quick meals.

I looked into that hotel once and found that it is mainly used by homeless and people who are moving into the Orlando area who don't have apartments or homes yet. Mainly homeless who are on some kind of rental subsidies and can't afford a real apartment. Lots of seedy things going on, dirty, noisy and not safe. I would stay away!
check out Bookit.com. I got a hotel room last minute in Feb at Holiday Inn Maingate East for $23 a night. It is not one of the "best" a 3 star but it was clean, had a nice bathroom with a shower, the beds were comfortable and the sheets were clean. We spent 8 hours a day there so it was just what i needed.
Last Oct I got a astminute rate of $38 for Orlando Vista (I call it the pineapple hotel) which is right outside of DTD. I walked to DTD and hopped a bus to the resorts and walked to most of the parks.
I put Orlando, Disney area, Lake Buena Vista, or Maingate East, or Maingate West. Put in the dates you need and a bunch of hotels will come up. then sort by price, low to high and do a search for reviews and location.
I can help if you send me a pm

I HIGHLY recommend this too. Stayed there in December - excellent location, the breakfast is HUGE and that alone will save you $$$ with two teenaged boys. I think there is a location on International Drive too which would be farther from WDW but would be an option since you're going to Universal too. Look for my trip report in HOTEL REVIEWS under ORLANDO HOTELS section.

Not sure about the F&F rate - but watch Travelzoo...I got it for $75 a night (which was WAY cheap, not usually that low) for the 2 bedroom.

Well my daughter recently spent two months at one of the Extended Stays in Orlando (Universal area). She was done with college yet we hadn't closed on our condo yet so I guess you could say she was homeless. I will say at first I was concerned but once I took her to get her checked in I was totally relieved (and she didn't even stay at one of my first choices due the length of time she needed).

I found the staff EXTEMELY nice and helpful. The rooms were just fine if a bit old - they used the Ving type key cards. As for the clientele...it was alot of people in the same situation she was..in between spots, quite a few business people that commute (weeks in Orlando, weekends at home) They told me they had a few that had stayed there over two years. It honestly made sense financlially as she had no bills but the hotel stay (I think she paid just over 200 a week), one time internet charge of 4.99 for the entire stay, no utility bills, housekeeping once a week, a laundry room down the hall.

She was actually there on Christmas Day and I was sad about that telling people she lived in a box under the bridge and would be eating Christmas dinner with the divorced dads at Denny's...but it was all fine.

All in all for the Orlando area I would not hesitate to do it again - I might just book earlier to get my first choice.

Great rate! I've actually stayed in the one on I Drive, and it was very large and comfortable. These two hotels have pretty close to full kitchens.

Yep!

Thanks everyone for you opinions. DH thinks we should rent a condo, we found some online that look great and the rates seem to only be a few more dollars a night than the extended stay, plus he feels the boys will be more comfortable with their own bedrrom and bathroom, and having laundry facilities within the condo sounds great to me, no laundry mat LOL I also like the idea that we can eat breakfast before we leave out for the day and if we plan right we can get by on some snacks or small meal during the day and cook dinners in the condo. It will save a TON, especially with the teens. Those boys can EAT

Plus, this is THEIR trip after all, I am just the bank and activity director :rotfl2:

Have any of you done WDW and a cruise all in the same vacation? We normally do a week long vacation, so this will be the longest vacation we have ever taken.

I think you can get all those things mentioned in the staybridge suite (kitchen, own bedroom, not sure if washer/dryer is IN room or not), but the breakfast and maybe manager's reception are included in your rate.

You should compare prices. You might be able to get a condo for cheaper per night, I am not sure. It looked like the rates for the staybridge suites were $95 for 2 bedroom for my dates. Don't forget to include the value of the free breakfast when you are comparing.

I just looked at the Staybridge Suites site and there is nothing about Free Bfst or Manager's reception. Where do you find out if these amenities are inmcluded in the price?

TY, I will give them a look, and I like that rate. Thats what Extended stay was going to charge us, and the condo DH looked up was $119 that was @ WorldQuest. I will work between Staybridge and WorldQuest to see who can give me a honey of a deal! I do like the idea of the free breakfast, thats one less thing I have to worry with, and I would love a managers reception. Those are the kind of things that really make it feel like vacation! And myself being the only female in this group, I can bet a paycheck I will be the one doing all the work, so someone else cooking breakfast is tops on my list of happy's

I seriously think by the time I research, research, research, plan, re-plan and plan some more that I will need a post vacation from the vacation. My sanity will be questionable and I may need a rubber room after spending 14 days with 3 southern men. Hense the reason I am starting the research and planning NOW, a full year and two months ahead of time. SOOOOO Happy to have found this place.

Right on the web site, click on "dining" -- free breakfast buffet, and Sundowner Reception on Tues. - Thurs. evenings.

This is what it says under Dining:

"Fuel up for an exciting day in Orlando with a free breakfast buffet featuring Belgian waffles, eggs, fruit and more. Fill the suite's kitchen with items from the 24-hour BridgeMart store, and later join us at a Sundowner Reception on Tues-Thurs evenings."
