On Cozumel day Mom kind of wanted to check the place out. DCL said the wheelchair would make it, but Dad said not to worry, he'd do his exercises in the pool and be fine. He had the place to himself on Cayman day.
First DH decided to book the Fury catamaran sail, snorkel and beach party for our family. It came to under $200 (as opposed to Chakanab, Xcaret, etc.) and he felt that less beach would be better since we both had sunburned backs.
So off we headed to Cozumel (our excursion didn't meet until 12:30, sis and family had a later time for the dolphin encounter). We went through the 2 story mall to get to the main drag--when we went back noticed we could have cut right to the street. The entire sidewalk in Cozumel is all chopped up with a groove down the middle--we would have had a nightmare time if we had taken dad. Plus it was packed and very hot and humid. Sis and I had decided to go as far as Viva Mexico (a shop) and backtrack. We got some water shoes for Dad, some vanilla for me and my MIL back home, and a pin at HRC. As we walked from the shops I got nervous about time and Mom was pretty worn out from the heat, so Mom, DS and I went back ahead of the group. DH bought a mexican blanket--he'd wanted one for a long time.
We headed to the Buena Vista theatre to meet for the excursion. This was our only DCL excursion--did the other two on my own. I hadn't considered it as something we would like but the Passporter gave it a 10 and it turned out to be right! It was an absolute blast! First the Fury Catamaran (they ended up needing 2 because so many people signed up) took us to a 100 ft. snorkeling spot. I let DS use his own life jacket this time. He was still having trouble, but Ivan, one of the dive masters, took him under his wing and worked with him one on one. Ryan would put his face under and come up shrieking "I SAW FISH!!" then he would go back under and come back up yelling "I SAW A MILLION FISH!!" He was so excited it was very cool to see. We saw different fish than Cayman because we were a lot deeper--however the pictures didn't come out as well because they were farther down. But I'll always remember how excited Ryan was. I made sure to compliment Ivan to the captain, but he just kind of nodded at me and I don't know if he understood me! Willie was the guy that did the speaking for the crew. He reminded me a lot of Carlos on "The Flying Nun". Did I mention that after the snorkeling portion, while sailing to the beach party portion, they had FREE margaritas??? Of course the kids had soda and DH had a beer. They were playing party music and it was just so much fun. They had kind of a private beach and there were 4 other Fury boats there. We walked off the boat onto the beach. DD#1 saw a water iceberg on the far end and DH said she could take DD#2 there. Of course I flipped out when I found out--DD#2 shouldn't be that far out. So DH headed out there. Good thing, because it was half deflated, the kids couldn't climb up on it, and they were all exhausted. He had to take a float out and bring the girls (and another girl) back! They need to fix it or put it out of its misery. So we spent the rest of the time looking for shells, rocks, etc. and I was playing with DS on a float. The floats were free. They had food for sale, more free drinks, etc. AFter an hour we got back on the boat and sailed back. They played all types of party songs on the way back--the electric slide, YMCA, etc. It was a real blast!
We got back about 5 so we hustled to get ready for mexicali night. We all had tropical garb and DD#2 even brought an old lei she had from a school function, but we all got new leis at dinner. We got to do the limbo during dinner as well! DS loves to limbo. Have I mentioned our servers were totally wonderful? It was Ronald from the Netherlands and William from India. Ronald will be having his 2 months off at the end of July but he'll be back. He always offered his own recommendations instead of the ones in the menu and they were always right on target.
After dinner Mom and I got a picture with Minnie. It's good except I had to stoop down (Mom is shorter than I am) and my rear end sticks way out--I'm going to crop my butt out of it and give Mom a copy. Then we put the kids in the clubs and gave Mom the pager just in case, and headed into Cozumel. We did some shopping but the shop I wanted to check out (Jewels of the Caribbean, 1/2 carat ruby earrings for $35) was closed. Lots of jewelers wanted our business and one guy even got DH to try on a $6000 mafia diamond ring, but we passed. We got a few small T shirts for the kids and had a drink at Carlos and Charlies, where I got a T shirt. Then we went back to the ship. We didn't make the mexicali party, but we'd been to 2 deck parties and thought we'd be OK missing one, esp. knowing we'd lose an hour of sleep that night and had the 8:15 character breakfast the next day! Ryan actually paged us at 11:30 to come get him and then we all went to sleep.
Next: day at sea; semi-formal night; lobster!
