Express Pass - yes or no

We are heading to Universal later this week, will be there on Saturday and Sunday. This late in the season, will the crowds have died down enough that we will not need the express pass (not staying on property)? I'm willing to buy the passes if you all think it's worth it, but would love to save the money if its not.
