Express Line/Resort

At the end of April I am staying at Portofino. I am travelling as a guest of my sister who will be there for a conferance. Her company pays the hotel, and her park passes. I will buy my own park passes. My question is, if I buy the 5 day pass off of Universal's site, will I get the privlege of using the express line? Will just having a key/access card to the hotel be enough to get me into the express line? Or does the room card actually have to be your park pass also? Am I making sense here?

You do not have to have your pass on the room key... You can buy your pass anywhere... as long as you are staying onsite & have the room key ... you are all set

Oh, good. I'd been reading also that you can buy an express pass for the day, but it is more limited than the express you get by staying onsite, so I was worried. I don't want any limitations! I want the benefits of staying onsite, even though my room card will not be my park pass. Thanks again!

Last year we had AP and Room Keys. Quite frankly, they usually didn't care what I showed them. Half the time I would forget and show the AP, and they would wave us through. It does sound like they may be paying a little more attention, and scanning this time. We'll find out it April.

We just got back, they are definitely paying very close attention to the express cards, including scanning at many attractions.

But to answer the original question, the 2 are entirely separate. Once in the park, you can basically put away your universal ticket (which you can buy anywhere, even on line), and wave your magic hotel key ...

Thanks Trina. I didn't know if they scanned the hotel key for the express line, or just looked at it. Sounds like they just look at it, and don't care if it is your park pass also.

The first person may scan, or may not scan your express pass. Unless they take it there, keep it out, for there is usually a second checkpoint who scans/collects.

Again, just as an update, they DO scan your pass.......... wether it is your room key or not. AND they are totally different, once inside the park......... all you need is your ROOM KEY!!!!! It is "magic" it gets you fotl for pretty much everything........ yes, you do go in the "express" line, but usually there is NO wait. You DO NOT need to get an "express ticket" if you have a room key. It is very confusing I know....... but once you have your ENTRANCE ticket to the park............ you don't need anything other than your room key.......... again, they will scan it!!!! at the rides.

Madam,

If you are staying at Portofino, Hard Rock or Royal Pacific your room key is the express pass for both parks.

Thanks everyone!! I feel much better. I have my 5 day pass I bought online, and I'm staying at Portofino 4-20 - 425. I'm not worried now knowing that I can take advantage of the resort stay perks.
