Not sure if anyone has been watching the news but there has been a huge explosion about half a mile away from my house. It was so scary - all i could hear was a loud rumbling noise - so i got up to open my window and have a look, then there was a huge explosion - the force of the explosion threw me back from the window and slammed the window shut!

Really hope nobodys been killed!

OMG, how scary. I hope everything is ok. I am not watching the news unfortunatly. Hope you are ok, I would freak out if that happened near my apartments!! I freak out whenever I hear an idiot with a really loud muffler take off down the stretch of street in front of my apartments! I can't imagine a huge explosion. :earseek:

yes i've been watching sky news since they first started broadcasting about it......since they felt it all the way in london, they were on it pretty quickly...
it's an oil depot near Hemel Hempstead........i just stopped watching sky now...they had lots of eye witness reports and pictures and film...
a very scary looking fire....

Really is scary - i was meant to be working this morning - our office is 200yards from the depot - so i cant go in. It is pretty scary, especially seeing all the flames and smoke from my window - cant go outside as the smoke is so think and all you can smell is the fuel!

hi all,
i'm in nyc and watching cnn, looks very bad.hope all are ok.best wishes to all of you.

Glad you are OK Laura.

Whole thing sounds worrying.

definitely stay indoors....being outdoors can't be good for your lungs...

Wow we are watching sky news :( Hope everyone is safe. Laura stay indoors and keep safe.

It has been said there have been casualties, doesn't go in to many specifics yet though.

Yes they just said 2 people who was working there haven't been accounted for :(

with the force of the explosion described by witnesses, it would be miraculous if only 2 people were killed....

Just seen my office on the news - dont know if any of you saw it but it was a reddish brown brick building and half the bricks had come of. Scary to think that a few hours later and i would have been there. I have just found out that the 2 guys who were working the night shift in my building are ok though, one of them was interviewed on BBC news 24 and said he was blown from his chair!

Although the explosion was huge its lucky that it was an industrial area and on a sunday so thankfully not many people around.

I know someone who works for the fire brigade and they said that they were on high alert today as they had reports that there might be a terrorist attack today at Milton Keynes shopping centre - hopefully its a false alarm and just scaremongering but if anyone is going near there please be careful!!

Hope everyone is ok, its sounds like a very scary fire. DH is a fireman but has never been 2 anything that big yet, our thoughts are with all the Emergency staff attending the scene :goodvibes

when i first heard it on our radio i immediately thought terrorism (they broke into the program at around 6:30 AM to report of the explosion, that's when i turned on Sky News),.....
and i suppose it can't really be ruled out yet, although industrial accident seems much more likely....

Hi

It is bad, but its a bit of coincidence after the terrorist threat regarding oil reserves. :confused3

I hope everyone is ok.

Michelle

Laura - I saw your office on SKY, imagine if the accident was a few hours later.

I spend a lot of my time designing control systems for the oil and gas industry and so I'm more than aware of the risk of explosions and how easy they can occur :(
I hope that the injured are not to seriously hurt :(

I'm 7 miles away from the blast (and we were certainly woken up by it) and what really ticks me off is the amount of panic buying of fuel that is going on - DH walked down to the local garage for our Sunday paper and he said you couldn't see the end of the queue! On the plus side, thank heavens it wasn't much worse than it was.

i know, afriend was telling me that she went to get some milk and a paper and some lady put £3 in her car?! It really is pointless!
