Explosion at fertilizer plant north of Waco, Texas

So, nobody knows yet HOW the fire was caused, there was a veiled threat posted last week to the google+ page of the company, 2 other terrorism related incidents this week, the timing of which co-incides directly with other anniversaries of terrorism, yet I'm wearing a tin foil hat......ok, whatever.

I saw that link last night, looks its now deleted.

The entire town of West is being evacuated.

ETA -

video of explosion

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROrpKx3aIjA&feature=share Here is a video of it actually exploding.. its not bad at first.. 29 seconds in you'll jump

I heard that the little boy's hearing returned, and both he and the dad got out safely - but that videos is heartrenching to hear. :guilty:

The accounts I read said that there was a fire (obviously), and water contacted ammonium nitrate, which then exploded.

I went to the link too and posts have been removed, I was wondering the same.
Also, I noticed even new posts to that thread show as being posted last week. Maybe their date stamp/clock is off for the site.

I recall reading one starting with the word "BOOM" can't remember what else it had said, but it also stated that it was posted later in the week, making it look like this review was before the explosion. But I think you're right about the date stamp being off.

I checked your link, but it seems like maybe some of the posts on the page have been removed? Or am I missing something? What did it say?

I saw it last night, I can't remember the wording exactly, but it was definitely a threat.

So glad everything turned out okay for both the boy and father. It was so hard to listen to that little boy being so frightened. :sad1:

The video brought tears to my eyes... the little boy just makes me so sad. And, early this morning, I was watching CNN when Piers Morgan interviewed the wife of a volunteer firefighter who had gone back to the plant. So scary & heartbreaking!

I do believe it was probably a tragic accident. But I also read the Google+ message.

And there are a few details that make me wonder "what if" - the cryptic message on Google+, the town is so close to Waco, this week is the anniversary of both Waco & the OK city bombing, & the fire basically ignited a fertilizer bomb which is exactly what was used in the OK city bombing.

At first I was thinking that, if it were terrorist-related, the person or persons would have set the fire during the day so there would have been students at the nearby school. But, a "homegrown" terrorist might possibly have intentionally waited until the students were gone.

It also makes me wonder - Are fertilizer plants guarded?

last night there was only 1 comment on there and it started out with something like "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" and did sound rather threatening or at the very least happy that there was an explosion. I never checked to see what date it was posted on though.

Yes. At the time the link was posted, "ashes to ashes, dust to dust" was the ONLY post to show up on the page and it "appeared" at that time to have been posted BEFORE the explosion. Checking back later, I saw that wasn't the case at all. I deleted my DIS post as it no longer made sense after learning the "ashes to ashes" post came AFTER the explosion.

I never checked the time stamp on it..just assumed it was after and was some jerk doing a "ha ha, got what you deserved" type of thing. Then I started thinking what it was posted before and that made it creepy.

I thought the very same thing...it certainly looked that way. ::yes:: Gave me cold chills when I read it.

This was not some 'local co-op'. It was a fertilizer manufacturing plant.

I was surprised when I went to read how many of those 'you got what you deserved' posts there were! They have been removed - some people are really sick and twisted.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but this has happend before in Texas on April 16, 1947 in Texas City , TX.

On April 16, 1947 – 66 years and one day to yesterday’s explosion – a ship was being loaded with ammonium nitrate when it exploded. The explosion killed 581

That's odd, when I saw it, it said the post had been made within the last week, not "today" or the hour like I believe G+ usually does on posts.

Exactly. You and I both saw the very same thing and it was *chilling*! Minutes later it totally changed. Hmmmm....

That's exactly what I read as well. And I couldn't quite figure out why the date stamp was a week old.

When I look at the posts every one of them say "reviewed in the last week" no real date or time. Do you see something different?

I read the quote from the link that was posted here in this thread right after the explosion. And I guess that's what it did say - "reviewed in the last week."

I assumed that that meant that the comment had been made in the last week, & I couldn't figure out why someone had posted the comment before the explosion. I guess "date stamp" was a poor choice of words.

I'm not familiar w/ Google+, so I'm not even really sure what I was reading... was the post on the West Fertilizer Company site? When I clicked on the link, the comment was there in addition to the West Fertilizer Company name & address w/ a map, if I'm remembering correctly.

Like someone else said, it was creepy.

I'm not sure anyone saw my 1st post in this thread, so I'll ask again because I'm curious... Are fertilizer plants guarded? Again, I'm thinking this was probably a horrible accident, but it does make one wonder.

This was not some 'local co-op'. It was a fertilizer manufacturing plant.

you show me the Ammonia converter and I'll believe it was an anhydrous ammonia plant.

It was nothing more than a terminal where locals could buy their fertilizers and feeds and possibly where they batched together some fertilizers.

I honestly think there were bullet tanks with Anhydrous but what caused the explosion was the fire hitting dry urea fertilizer. BOMB! Think OKC on a much larger scale and not a terrorist attack.
