Explosion at fertilizer plant north of Waco, Texas

This reminds me of the fireworks plant explosion WAY back on Long Island (in the 80's?). Such destruction.

I'm trying not to think this way but there is a nagging in the back of my head that wonders if all of this craziness over the last couple of days (Boston, the ricin letter the plant explosion) are related.

From what I understand, letters to Congress/Senate and the President sometimes take weeks to arrive due to all the screenings the mail goes through. The letters that were sent were more than likely sent weeks ago, before the bombing in Boston.

The letters aren't connected to any of the current stuff.

Just read on CNN that local law enforcement says criminal activity is not apparent, but they're not ruling it out.

I just can't see terrorists targeting West Texas. Only thing there is the Czech Stop where everyone driving 35 stops for Kolaches. It's a super small town which I can't imagine being on anyone's radar.

It's also import to note that there no indication that the letters contained any toxic levels of ricin. In the past such letters have often only contained things like ground up castor beans. These beans are a source for ricin, and contain enough to trigger a positive preliminary test for the toxin (just like apple seeds and cyanide), but are not hazardous to humans.

A police spokesman for Waco PD is reporting on WFAA (local Dallas-Ft Worth station) that 3-4 of the initial volunteer firefighters on the scene last night are missing. :sad1:

You know our little communities down here, everyone is joining together to assist in any way necessary to help. These situations never weaken us, they only serve to strengthen us.

And yes, I thought about you and your friend last night since we're all connected somehow, glad to hear she's alright. :goodvibes
:thumbsup2 I know a bunch of Aggies on their way up to help. I'm willing to bet Baylor students have gone, as well. I have no doubt that people all over that area of Texas are doing all that they can to help. Completely agree that we will use situations like this to strengthen us.

Given that they were still reported to be trying to put out the fires as of this morning, you can bet that no investigation has even officially started yet, so there would be no reason to rule anything out at this point in time.

I can hear all kinds of rattling of church kitchens' pots and pans. ;)

While I don't buy into the whole conspiracy theories, I'm sure this is just an unfortunate accident. However, look at how much damage it did. It could be looked at as no where is safe, even our small towns. When you think about it, a fertilizer plant makes a huge bomb. Perhaps that was the goal.

**Again, I believe it was an accident, just looking at the other side of it.

Agreed...

That's true.

Really? Its right near Waco, and it's the 20th anniversary of the raid...I can fully imagine it being targeted by domestic terrorists.

There was a fire, and the fire triggered the explosion...no, I can't fully imagine it being targeted by terrorist.

put down the tin foil hats, this is nothing more than a fire that got out of control and reached the local "co op" and resulted in a terrible tragedy

Seriously, though, you know this, how? I do believe it was an accident, but I don't think anyone can say for sure yet. Fires are set every day, that's why they have a term for it.

So, nobody knows yet HOW the fire was caused, there was a veiled threat posted last week to the google+ page of the company, 2 other terrorism related incidents this week, the timing of which co-incides directly with other anniversaries of terrorism, yet I'm wearing a tin foil hat......ok, whatever.

I'm not seeing people wearing any foil hats. I see people just discussing a situation. Nobody is screaming the sky is falling, but just talking about 'what if's'. A natural flow of conversation in light of recent events. :confused3

I checked your link, but it seems like maybe some of the posts on the page have been removed? Or am I missing something? What did it say?

I went to the link too and posts have been removed, I was wondering the same.
Also, I noticed even new posts to that thread show as being posted last week. Maybe their date stamp/clock is off for the site.
