Took DS to Purgatory Chasm today to climb/hike through the chasm. They also had a program on pond life. The ranger took a few big buckets of pond water and brought them up under the pavillion for the kids to search through. She put the water in several white dishpans and the kids had white spoons and white ice cube trays. As they found insects, parasites, water boatmen, beetles, bugs, tadpoles, watermites, invertebrates in the dishpans they took them out and separated them in the ice cube trays w/water so they could look at them better. This kept DSs attention the entire hour.

Before we head up to NH (both trips) and to ME camping in Aug we'll be buying a white dishpan and taking along an icecube tray and a few spoons. Cheap inexpensive way to spend an hour.

Hey - we caught a lot of pollywogs this weekend up at White Lake in NH. We always buy those big plastic cups that have the white insides. You can really see whatever you scoop out of the ponds and streams.

Of course, we didn't find out until today that there was a black bear roaming around the campground! Yikes!
