I have seen the Cash Discount Price mentioned several times. Is this a discount offered to members so they can stay at DVC resorts and pay cash in order to save points for other trips. Or is it available to members to "pay the difference" when they do not have enough points available to cover the length of stay. Are these discounts significant enough to make this option attractice?

Sometimes DVC members can get a 25% discount off cash rack rates at DVC properties. I got a studio at BWV last October with the discount. I booked it through Member Services. The price isn't great (I want to say it was around $275/night) but it was less than rack rates.

If you were short of points for a trip, you could book a split reservation paying cash for the nights you don't have points for. Even if the discount wasn't available, Disney would be more than happy to charge you rack rates for the rooms. :)

You can't use both points and cash for a single night in a single villa. It's either all cash or all points. The 25% discount is not always available. You can usually get a cash stay through MS, but it might not be discounted. The good thing about going through MS is that if you add those cash nights to a points stay, it is considered one reservation and you don't have to check out and check back in again.
