Can someone please explain to me the deal with Straight Talk. What are the advantages and disadvantages for buying the refill cards at walmart and signing up for the automatic refills online. Thanks so much.

I can only speak to the Unlimited Plan, but it is Unlimited talk, text etc...My DS has it. He likes it and we haven't had any trouble with it. That said, a few tips..

Make sure the phone has a provider that works in your area. He had one phone that worked everywhere. He broke it (not the phone's fault) and got a more expensive Android phone. That phone uses Sprint, and while it works where he lives, there is no Sprint coverage when he comes to our house.

I would get the auto-refill if you have a CC. he pays by the month, but THAT means that he calls me in a panic the night it's going to get shut off and I have to go on-line and refill it on my CC and he pays me back. All well and good, but can we just sign up for auto-refill and save the panic? No, he doesn't want to :confused3 Whatever. Other than that, it's been great, and he loves the Android phone :thumbsup2

Our son has used Straight Talk for two years. We prefer to purchase the refill cards from Wal-mart. I usually purchase 2 at a time, sometimes 3. You can stack your time and minutes, but we just add a $30 card each month. If our son doesn't have the refill card with him at college, we just read the refill code to him over the phone.

Once we did pay for the refill by purchasing it on line direct from Straight Talk. A Universal Service Charge and a Regulatory Cost Recovery fee was added. This is not added when the card is purchased from Wal-mart. I'm not sure if these fees are added if you sign up for automatic refill. It would be interesting to know.

Straight Talk works great in our area of North Carolina. Our son plans to upgrade to a smart phone soon. We'll then bump up to the $50/month plan.

Hi Toots. We are Cary-ites too!

I have opted to have it automatically refill, but not online. I submitted my credit card and don't have to worry about it.

The down side is that if I ever decide to cancel, I will have to call them, which I try to avoid at all cost (not good customer service).

So far so good.....

Funny, I am in Fuquay... I know several people around here that had loved straight talk! My DH had it for a few months before he changed over to Virgin Mobile, but he had no problems!
