Explain Nintendo DS dual player thing to me!

My sons are saying that in order to play 2 player on any game they need 2 identical games, one in EACH DS.

Is this the case?

It depends on the game..there are some games where you will need one game per DS.

I think this is true for most games.. When I see my sons playing with their friends multi-player , they each have a game in their set.

The kids figured out their Mario game is fine with just one game, the others they got aren't.

There are games that they can sync up and their are games that don't. If the games can sync then they only need one game. If they can't sync then they will need 2 games to play at the same time but they won't be sync'd not matter what. I have never bought 2of the same games for my kids and they can play a lot of them together.

If they have wifi on them you only need 1 game and i think you can play upto 4 players

On the back of the game box it will tell what form of multiplayer the game has.

Single Card Multiplayer - You only need one game and all other players download it. Mario Party, Mario Kart and I believe the new Ravin Rabids is this way. Sometimes game play will be somewhat limited - like character selection may use default characters, or boards will be limited.

Multi Card Multiplayer - Every player is required to have a copy of the game to play. Such as Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.

Some games do both forms. I believe Mario Kart does both forms but having multiple carts will allow all players to chose their characters.

Oh also. There are different types of multiplayer as well.

Wireless is DS to DS (played in the same area)

WLan (I'm sick so I may have the name wrong) connects through the internet, or a router. For this multicard multiplayer is required.
