We're due to fly in a couple of days and we've just noticed OH photo card Licence has expired.

We're going to phone the DVLA in the morning but I wondered if anyone on here has managed to hire a car in Florida with an expired photo card?

Thanks xx

They always thoroughly check them, so I'd go assuming you'll get pulled up on it :(

This happened to me at Dollar Atlanta. It was however a few years back when we also had paper. At first they refused to hire but after pointing out the paper was valid and that the photos licenses were regularly out of date in UK as people didn't often replace them, they made a few calls and then rented. Needless to say I updated the photo licenses upon return. Now of course you don't have a paper license so you wouldn't have that to fall back on so I suspect they may not rent. Your argument would be that you are licenced to 2050 or whatever, its just the card that's expired. Then again I suspect in Orlando they regularly have Brits turning up with expired photocards so who knows until you try if they make exceptions. I certainly wouldn't risk it though.

Driving on an expired Photo Card in the UK is an offence, so the DVLA would register you as not having a valid license, especially if the rental company decided you should then do the official code thingy

The Licence has been processed so he does have a valid photo card Licence it's just awaiting despatch.

Got you, have you called the rental company? You could do the DVLA code thing to prove you have a license

You just need a certificate of entitlement from the dvla
People who have gone and forgotten to take the licence have used this, the hire companies just contact the dvla and make sure you have a valid licence.

It all worked out!

The Licence was at the sorting office and they let us collect it on the way to the airport!!

We did ask at the Alamo desk what would have happened a and they said without the photo card in date they wouldn't fulfill the reservation.

They said they won't accept the online driving Licence code or the DVLA fax.

We were lucky xx
