OK Stop and check your license!! I went to the bank to take $ out for our trip and the teller noticed. It has been expired since 9-05. OOPS!! I wonder if I would have gotten on the plane with it?

I doubt it because once its expired, its considered invalid. I worked in retail and we could only take valid drivers licenses.

At first glance my license appears to have expired last year. Someone would have to know to turn it over to see our state's renewal sticker that says it's valid for 4 years past the date on the front.

I got a slight shock the other day when I looked at it and didn't remember I renewed via telephone last year.

Anyway, I've flown several times since it "expired" and no one at the airport said a word or asked me to take it out of my wallet to look at the back. I don't think they even notice the date -- they are matching the name and face to you and the name on the ticket.

Probably not. I used to fly a lot for business a few years ago and Atlanta/Hartsfield used to really hassle me because the renewal sticker on the back of my license was starting to wear out from being pulled out of my wallet so much at airport security. The expiration date was not clear and I finally had to go to the DMV and get a new license made so the date could be seen (on another note, our state also issues State Id cards- which are official photo ids so I had one made at the same time in the event that I would have to fly and suddenly get a speeding ticket and be without my id :rolleyes1 )

We flew to Jacksonville in early December on Delta. DH's license expired 7 days prior. The Delta agent was NOT going to give him his boarding pass. He had to show any government issued document- passport, etc. Of course he had nothing, so a supervisor said he could use our vehicle's registration. Thank goodness we had drove ourselves to the airport! I thought they were being awfully tough on him, especially when they had cancelled our flight and had us arriving a day later- they were not going to cut him any slack!!
GET YOUR LICENSE RENEWED !!!!!!!

We flew in July and our licenses were due to expire in August and September. The airline rep. was sure to remind both of us that we are due to expire the following month(s)....so yes, they do check those valid IDs very carefully.

Mine had been expired for around 3 days when we were leaving Orlando, and the man did not say a thing! Just handed it back to me

Not quite the same, but last Nov. my DH lost his license mid-trip and was still allowed to fly home. He had to go through the extra security check though.

Our DS (age 21) flew back to college in Jan. (He does not have a drivers license as he does not drive, but a few years ago we got him a state issued ID card. )
Well, between the time he came home for Christmas break and flew back, his card had expired because he turned 21.
The airport folks let him fly but he had to go through the secondary screening . He also showed his current college ID.
Now we are trying to figure out how to renew it long distance!
