It occurred to me last night that on the 14 day repo cruises we will be changing time zones. Can someone explain how time zone changes happen on other cruises? Do you only worry about it when you dock? If you are on a "at sea" day and change zones, does it matter?

I think this may be one more reason to be on the May repo, it is 6 hours longer! lol :p

Thanks,
Charlene

On the 14 day trip there will be no getting away from it, whilst some ships have 'ship time' and they do not adjust their time night by night in differnet time zones, DCL tends to adjust to the local time.

There are advantages and disadvanatages, but the main one is getting back to the ship at the correct time, and not finding it has left.

Now I have done a panama cruise before but Westwards and you gain 3 hours and put your clocks back three seperate times.

On DCL next year I am coming back so from CL to FL you will loose 3 hours on three separate nights as you cross time zones, usually the closest sea day.

They will post a note on your navigator saying when you go to bed change your clocks by one hour.

Of course there isnt an 'option' on this trip, you cannot have ship time, as when to leave you are in a diffrent post and state and you would have had to change your clocks anyway.

You can only do ship time if you start and finnish your trip in the same time zone.

We had the additional 'hour' on are halloween cruise when Daylight saving time started as well.

Probably just like they handle the time changes on the Eastern Caribbean on the Magic.....they handle it just like Daylight Savings time and tell you to change your clock at 2 am.
So heading west to California you will have 3 nights where you gain an hour, and heading east back to Florida you'll have 3 nights where you loose an hour.

You will be advised with your nightly navigator when to change times. Be sure and follow those directions because when you are in port that is the clock the ship will be going by and you won't want to get back too late.:D

DCL gives you lots of reminders--they announce the time changes at the beginning of the shows (part of the little welcome talk), over the PA system, and have your server remind you at dinner. In addition, it is in big bold type on the Navigator.

So...yes, there will be time zone changes, but they will all be announced and occur at 2 am. Hopefully since they are spread over several days, we can acclimate easily.
