Experiment-627: A Caribbean Double with a Wilderness Chaser

I generally like to start the top of a page off with what ever the next section of the TR happens to be… but this time around it only seems fair to answer back the posts form my main antagonists (mostly because they do such a good job of it).

Than I’ll put up the next part of the story… so y’all just be patient.

A Yogi Berra appearance in a GoofyIsAsGoofyDoes TR. Seriously, does it get any more appropriate than that? :lmao:

I ‘spect not :rotfl2:

I don't have time for a challenge right now... so I guess you win this round. Curse you!

You’ll find time at some point. I choose my nemesises (nemesi?) as carfully as I chose my friends.

Doofenschmirtz Evil Incorporated!!!
::yes::

Why does everybody go for cheap puns?

Because they’re cheap… It’s a little like shopping at Wal*Mart… we all know that we’re just helping an evil empire destroy the middle class by decimating the manufacturing jobs, but most of us do it anyway

…and then there’s the fact that it just drives you bonkers so I just see it as a pure nemesis win right there.

Food and explosions... now that is a good evening!:thumbsup2

And what self-respecting DisDad would disagree with that?

Well, that dinner menu didn't have anything that just reached out and grabbed me. I think I'd just skip to this menu. :lmao::rotfl2:

Not a bad option. Honestly, I wonder how many folks have actually done this very thing. The general consensus amongst DCL veterans is that Pirate Night is the best time to go to either Palo or Remy.

Thanks! I try to keep up with all of the DisDad TR's, but that's not as easy as it sounds.

Not an easy task, but I try as well. There are a lot of different styles and the TRs are just as varied as our members are. There are a lot of unique insights into the Disney experience among the group.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Awesome monologue!

One of my favorites… I always love listening to George Carlen. Even if I know what’s coming, his delivery never fails to just knock me down.

As opposed to the normal chapters...:rolleyes1

Guilty as charged (when you’re right… you’re right).

That's an understatement!

Ya’ think.

Well?…

You forgot one.

4. The bathroom, stocked with today's newspaper.

Ummmmm… I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere near that door.

I agree! There's only one Pixar movie I don't like*, and it wasn't one of the Cars movies.

*It's a Bug's Life.

Interesting… something inparticular? Story, characters, concept?

Me too. The first one is a nice story that drags a little long, but has a good message. The second one is fun, and it's interesting to read how much of the criticism focuses on the fact that the reviewers really just don't like Mater. And they wonder why we think critics are elitist. :rolleyes1

That being said, the message of the 2nd movie isn't as strong as the first. But it makes up for it with explosions and slapstick. :thumbsup2

And lets here it for more explosions and slapstick. With out them… many guys would never venture into a theater.

North by Northwest

and

The Three Amigos

:rolleyes1

I knew you’d catch ‘em right off. So… how long did it take you to retrieve those two titles... 0.0254 nanoseconds? Or was it more like 0.0255?

I was close. I went with the bbq short-ribs on our pirate night, and thought they were fantastic. So I thought you might go in that direction.

Had those the last time I was sailing DCL aboard the Magic. They were right tasty.

Chapter 6 –
In the midst of: “The Tale” - Day 3 (Tue)

Part 6: Ad Victor Spolia

D06-601.jpg

Felix Leiter: “Ahoy, Mr. Bond! Ahoy, Mr. Bond!”

James Bond: “Well, well. What's the matter? Do you need help?”

Felix Leiter: “Quite sure you don't.”

It’s a pretty safe bet that at the end of the film, the hero will get the girl. There aren’t many instances in cinema where this isn’t true. At least I can’t think of one where the primary hero would give his (or her) all and then have the object of their affections blithely chose to be with their rival (discounting “superheroes” that can’t or wont reveal their identities that is). In real life however… this really has no meaning. I have most certainly succeeded in getting the girl that I wanted (to be sure), but that was not the end of the story… it was the beginning (as far as I was concerned). Maybe we’re just being too literal here. The phrase “to the victor belongs the spoils” has several perceived meanings (and honestly most of them are not really that savory), but today I’m using it to describe the prize won for a job well done.

“Job”… what job? Why the job of have a great day aboard a great ship (like that’s hard to do). Nonetheless, we were rewarded at the end of this day and all we really had to do was let the folks who run the ship do what they are paid and trained to do anyway. How can you loose. They had been spoiling us all day… they’d continue to do so this evening.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

At least once during each sailing of Disney’s lovely ships, the guests will be treated to a fireworks show complete with synchronized music and even a bit of character play up on the pool deck’s main stage. For us… that evening had arrived. Here’s another look at the card that was delivered along with the Pirate Bandanas…

D06-518.jpg

This is the order that the various parts of the on deck pirate festivities will be following this evening. The first offering is…

“Mickey’s Pirates in the Caribbean”

D06-602.jpg

This part of the show is where you’re going to find one of the largest concentrations of Disney’s characters during the entire cruse.

D06-603.jpg

Needless to say, it’s geared toward the little swabbies

D06-604.jpg

Of course, Captain Hook and his band of rouges will try to take over the party and twist it to suit their nefarious designs, but Captain Mickey just wont be have’n it.

D06-605.jpg

This is basically the original show designed for Pirate Night aboard the Magic and Wonder and it’s aboard these ships where I’ve caught that part of the act before. This time around, we weren’t as concerned with catching all of this section of the show, so we weren’t in as great a hurry to get topside. But… if you’d like to see what these festivities look like… here’s a pretty good video of the action

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Buccaneer Blast

D06-608.jpg

“The Blast” is the actual fireworks show, and as I’ve said before, DCL are the only folks that can currently offer this type of entertainment. They actually fire the shells from the ship (which makes sense), and always fire toward the starboard side of the ship. You can use this tidbit as a guide toward deciding where exactly you want to view the proceedings. Here are the best options for you to consider…

Anywhere between the funnels on Deck-11
The pros here are that you’ll be close to all characters and be a part of the all dancing (big bonuses points for those with smaller young’ens and them what just “got’a dance”). The down side it that there are more potential obstructions to clearly viewing the actual fireworks (including things like the Aqua Duck, all the folks standing up on Deck-12 and Deck-12 itself).

Deck-12 on the starboard side
Here you’ll have an unobstructed view and will be able to hear the audio track clearly. Anything happening on stage or on the “Jumbotron” will be behind you though. But, if seeing the aerial conflagration is the main object, then these are minor concerns.

Deck-12 on the pport side
If you stand on this side looking across the deck you’ll have to adjust a bit to keep the Aqua Duck from obscuring your view but you’ll be clear of all other obstructions. Although the spot is physically farthest from the night canvas that the phosphorescence will be painting, it’s an insignificant difference, and you still have a clear view of both the stage and the “Jumbotron” without having to spin around and risk missing anything else.

From your own Varanda
Obviously this won’t work for the folks with inside cabins or staterooms on the port side of the ship, but it is an option for some. You certainly won’t have to deal with the crowd form this vantage point. However, you’ll need to lean on and hang over the railing just a little bit so that you can see everything (because the verandas on the decks above you could block part of the view). The other downside is that you wont really hear the audio part of the show very well (if at all).

We chose the Deck-12 Port Side option because it let us see as much as possible without having to be jerking around too much. Y’all can now enjoy the result of this choice in the form of the little video below…

Now if you can’t get beyond your firewall to that video (of if you just don’t have time to do so right now)… here’s a few more pictures from the show we got to see. If you can’t see those either then you’ll just have to cuss your firewall or worse yet, get back to work (and it just makes me shutter just to think of that horror).

D06-609.jpg

D06-610.jpg

D06-611.jpg

D06-612.jpg

Yah I know… it’s just not the same without the nip of the evening air, the sea breeze crossing the deck and the fabulous sound system concussing your body with the thundering bass response and entrancing music. This is especially true in the second act where the sound track grows darker and then breaks into the battle sequences from the POTC films… absolutely magical. I also love the snippets of audio taken form the original ship-vs-fort scene in the POTC attraction at DL & MK. These show up early and during the final sequences of the show (while the fireworks is imitating cannon shot… one very cool effect might I add). Even my paltry video doesn’t do any of these details the least little bit of justice. You really need to find a way to see it for yourself.

D06-613.jpg

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

Club Pirate

D06-614.jpg

This is the last part of the evening’s festivities and it starts off with one more little show. After the last of the pyrotechnics has sounded it’s hearty report, the sound and lights will draw you’re attention back up to the Jumbotron where you’ll be offered up a monologue by “Jolly Rodger” (who would prefer it if you called him: “J. Arrrrrrr.”). In the midst of his attempts at humor and amusement (and I do mean “attempts”), he notices that we’re in Pirate Clamed Waters and warns us all to look sharp! While this has been going on, a number of the entertainment CMs dressed in full on pirate gear (and some as pirate ghouls and such) will have dispersed amongst the crowd on both Decks-11 & 12. Depending on the character being portrayed, they may even menace the crowd and try to get a rise out of the kids. Here’s the fell’a that happened to be standing directly in fount of me as he was lunging at a couple of young’ens…

D06-615.jpg

JR commands the mangy curs to show themselves and they start climbing out of the woodwork and commandeer the stage. Bickering, arguments and threats commence (it’s a whole lot like watching “Reality” TV). Just as they’re about to attack the passengers…
Jack Sparrow shows himself on a platform high up on the forward funnel with the intention of saving all aboard the Dream from the clutches of these scurvy dogs…

D06-616.jpg

D06-617.jpg

Shots are fired and Jack “falls” from his perch. The ghouls surround him with malice in mind and battle ensues. Jack is cornered and introduced to the noose…

“Any last words?”

“Just one… Kraken!!!”

In the panic of the moment… our “Hero” escapes (temporarily). There are more struggles and much gnashing of teeth until Jack is cornered again. But then… an argument erupts over who should have the right of the kill ‘em.

“Is there anyone here that’s just happy to see me!”

D06-618.jpg

Of course Captain… Jack Sparrow does make his escape and proclaims that we’ll all remember the night that we almost… caught him.

D06-619.jpg

At this point “J Arrrrrrr” returns and initiates the actual dance party part of the evening. The CMs take the stage once again… the music shifts from exciting and adventurious to “Techno”… there is one last bit of pirate inspired choreography… and then it’s on with the dance music and an invitation to one and all to hop up on the dance floor and shake their moneymaker.

Now… just incase my little attempt at describing these events hasn’t succeeded in drawing nearly vivid enough of a picture in your minds (and I do believe that’s a fairly safe bet to be makin’)… I found a video of the whole sordid affair that someone else saw fit to post out there in internet-land. Go see four yourselves…

Being as it was getting a might late, we decided we’d seen and done enough on this fine day. A timely withdraw back to our comfy cabin seemed to be exactly what was called for at this point. A bit of shuteye would do us all good, as we’d be heading into our fourth day aboard the Dream. Besides… it’s best for all concerned that not a single living creature were ever to see persons such as myself even attempt to dance. No good could come of it. I’m also fairly sure that this kind of visual shock might even have adverse and potentially devastating consequences for engineered life forms as well…

Interesting… something inparticular? Story, characters, concept?

I haven't seen A Bug's Life in years, so my memory is hazy. I just wasn't grabbed by the story or the characters...I remember walking out of the theater with a "meh" impression of the whole thing. Sometimes you just don't "click" with a movie, you know? :confused3

I knew you’d catch ‘em right off. So… how long did it take you to retrieve those two titles... 0.0254 nanoseconds? Or was it more like 0.0255?

Maybe a couple of seconds. NxNW was a little more obscure, but when I saw the Hitchcock reference before the picture, I figured it out. And of course, Three Amigos was instantly recognizable. :thumbsup2

I have most certainly succeeded in getting the girl that I wanted (to be sure), but that was not the end of the story… it was the beginning (as far as I was concerned).

Well said, sir! :thumbsup2

If Captain Hook actually won out, you might be stuck on that ship forever.

Looks great! On our cruise, we invented a 5th option: craning your neck against the porthole in your room as you tried to catch stray fireworks while tending to your son who happened to vomit in the stateroom. :headache::sick:

If you can’t see those either then you’ll just have to cuss your firewall or worse yet, get back to work (and it just makes me shutter just to think of that horror).

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo...

Sounds awesome! The score from the POTC films is some of my favorite movie music ever.

Of course Captain… Jack Sparrow does make his escape and proclaims that we’ll all remember the night that we almost… caught him.

And here I would have thought he would call for "parlay".

Besides… it’s best for all concerned that not a single living creature were ever to see persons such as myself even attempt to dance. No good could come of it. Mickey Mouse and explosions...:cool1::woohoo::yay:

They actually fire the shells from the ship (which makes sense)
Yeah... kind of does make sense. Unless they were strapped on sharks, where else would they shoot them from.

That actually brings me to another point. The only thing cooler than sharks with lazers is sharks with explosives.:lmao::rotfl2:

Yah I know… it’s just not the same without the nip of the evening air, the sea breeze crossing the deck and the fabulous sound system concussing your body with the thundering bass response and entrancing music.
Yeah, yeah... just rub it in.:sad2:

Yeah... right there with those 2 Lucas franchises from HS and that prehistoric trilogy from that other park we're not supposed to talk about.

It's not, but reading your accounts of it really takes me back...to 14 days ago. :lmao:

Now this is odd...from when you were on the ship in June to when we went in October, parts of Club Pirates have changed. Perhaps it is something they do that is weather dependent or they just decided to do some tweaks I don't know. But you'll have to read my TR to find out what. If I ever get around to starting it....

To tell you the truth, I was hesitant to continue reading your TR. Nothing personal, but I was thinking that it would make me miss my own time on the Dream. It has, but not really in the way I was expecting. It's much less "melancholy and for-longing" and more "joyful reminiscing." Kudos to you, Rob! And great job with the Buccaneer Blast! It's a heck of a show!

I haven't seen A Bug's Life in years, so my memory is hazy. I just wasn't grabbed by the story or the characters...I remember walking out of the theater with a "meh" impression of the whole thing. Sometimes you just don't "click" with a movie, you know? :confused3

Got it. It’s not at the top of my list either. There are two parts that I do like. One is rather dark… it’s the scene in the “run down sombrero” where Hopper “explains” exactly why they’re going back to make good on the threat. The other one is the outtakes at the end. I believe that’s the first time the Pixar folks did that, and being one of the few folks that will sit in a theater for the credits (learned form watching “Ferris Bueller”), we had the place to ourselves when it showed up. I laughed till I hurt.

Well said, sir! :thumbsup2

You gott’a know what’s really important in this world.

As we mentioned in our movie discussion, let's hear it for explosions! :thumbsup2 :woohoo:

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

If Captain Hook actually won out, you might be stuck on that ship forever.

I hadn’t thought of that… I’ll be rooting for the pirates form now on.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo...

Like I said… Oh the horror!
:lmao:

Several of those pieces are on regular rotation on our players and CDs. Good stuff.

I believe we can judge this for ourselves. :rotfl2:

LAUNCELOT: “We were in the nick of time, you were in great peril.”
GALAHAD: “I don't think I was.”
LAUNCELOT: “Yes you were, you were in terrible peril.”
GALAHAD: “Look, let me go back in there and face the peril.”
LAUNCELOT: “No, it's too perilous.”
GALAHAD: “Look, I'm a knight, I'm supposed to get as much peril as I can.”

To DCL Reservations (but there’s a fairly hefty application fee).

Yeah... kind of does make sense. Unless they were strapped on sharks, where else would they shoot them from.

That actually brings me to another point. The only thing cooler than sharks with lazers is sharks with explosives.:lmao::rotfl2:

Well we knew that sharks were an option. Just ‘cause Dr Evil couldn’t “frickin” have ‘em, doesn’t meat that Disney couldn’t pull it off. But alas… they just fred then form the bow and stern of the ship.

Yeah, yeah... just rub it in.:sad2:

Sorry ‘bout Andy.
That would be awesome!!! :thumbsup2

::yes:: It was.

It was a very good description! At least I think it was. It's not like I've seen it or anything.:rolleyes1

I also really like stuff written by Frank Sullivan as well… but that stuff is rather obscure and hard to find unless you know where to look… or listen more rather (and it’s a subject that will have to wait for the next TR).

It's not, but reading your accounts of it really takes me back...to 14 days ago. :lmao:

Glad to be of service

Now this is odd...from when you were on the ship in June to when we went in October, parts of Club Pirates have changed. Perhaps it is something they do that is weather dependent or they just decided to do some tweaks I don't know.

I’m not surprised that they shifted this around a bit. It seems like a good part of the show to keep updated.

But you'll have to read my TR to find out what. If I ever get around to starting it....

Looking forward to that… trust me.

I’m pretty sure I ain’t deserving of any kind of praise in relation to my writing abilities… but I’m very glad to have you along for the ride. As I said, I’m really looking forward to seeing how you write about it. Having younger children and a different way of looking at things from me, I suspect I’ll learn things from you ramblings, and have the same opportunity to relive parts of our expedition.

Oh… by the way… did you notice the deceptive hack that I used to make it appear as if I’d embedded the videos into the TR (which you can’t really do on these boards). As I was searching for this answer, I saw where you were asking about this very same thing. It’s just a link tied to a picture. The deceptive part is photoshoping an image and overlaying a “start button” image on top of it so that it looks like an embed (and I have a good template for it if you’re interested)

I noticed that, very crafty if I must say. I also noticed that the Pirates show was a little different for us too.

Did you not go to the Pirate Buffet? I missed it and I keep wondering what it was I missed??:confused3 If anything?

John Williams is the Master of Movie Scores. Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Superman, Jurassic Park...the list goes on.

Hans Zimmer (POTC movies) is pretty awesome too. And I'm becoming a big fan of Michael Giacchino. He actually started in video games, was discovered by J.J. Abrams and worked on Alias and Lost on TV, and then was discovered by Pixar and did The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Cars 2.

Never heard of Frank Sullivan...I'll have to look him up.

Did you not go to the Pirate Buffet? I missed it and I keep wondering what it was I missed??:confused3 If anything?

No… we didn’t get to that this time around. We did check it out back in 2009 aboard the Magic, and honestly… it wasn’t that big a deal. I think that for some reason, DCL doesn’t put a lot of emphasis on “Midnight Buffets”. At least they don’t put the same amount of insanely over the top flourish on the idea that is applied to it on other cruise lines.

You're already reading my current TR, though. Every man has his breaking point. :rotfl2:

True… but I’m a glutten for punishment.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Bring out...the Holy Hand Grenade!

As you wish….

KNIGHT: “We have the Holy Hand Grenade.”

ARTHUR: “Yes, of course! The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch! 'Tis one of the sacred relics Brother Maynard carries with him! Brother Maynard! Bring up the Holy Hand Grenade!

Ummmm… How does it, uh... how does it work?”

KNIGHT: “I know not, my liege.”

ARTHUR: “Consult the Book of Armaments!”

MAYNARD: “Armaments, Chapter Two, Verses Nine to Twenty-One.”

BROTHER: "And Saint Atila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'Oh, Lord, bless this thy hand grenade that with it thou mayest blow thy enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin, and people did feast upon the lambs, and sloths, and carp, and anchovies, and orangutans, and breakfast cereals, and fruit bats, and large --"

MAYNARD: “Ummm…. Skip a bit, Brother.”

BROTHER: "And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.'"

MAYNARD: “Amen.”

ALL: “Amen.”

ARTHUR: “Right! One... two... five!”

KNIGHT: “Three, sir!”

ARTHUR: “Three!”

We asked several cast members which side of the boat the launched the fireworks from and we didn't get a consistent answer. It would have ben helpful to have this info before we scoped our position out.

Now if you can’t get beyond your firewall to that video (of if you just don’t have time to do so right now)… here’s a few more pictures from the show we got to see. If you can’t see those either then you’ll just have to cuss your firewall or worse yet, get back to work (and it just makes me shutter just to think of that horror).

option 3 is to put all you mission critical work on PB and then try and get your IT guys to poke a whole in your firewall so that you can get to it.
You really need to find a way to see it for yourself.
agreed.:thumbsup2 The sooner the better.

Besides… it’s best for all concerned that not a single living creature were ever to see persons such as myself even attempt to dance. No good could come of it. I’m also fairly sure that this kind of visual shock might even have adverse and potentially devastating consequences for engineered life forms as well…
I'm pretty sure this could apply to all disdads.

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Bless you, sir.

You’re welcome sir… :thumbsup2

Interesting… I’ve been on all three ships and the show was always to the right. I haven’t run across a video showing to be different either, so I’m surprised by the inconsistent answers. Hummmmmm… may need to do some deep research on this.

I’m pretty sure it may apply to all dads. Once you’ve actually married and started a family, you’ll quickly forget whatever “moves” it was that you “thought” you had on the dance floor.
:lmao:

Here’s your subliminal upcoming TR reminder for the day…

And a blast from the past… seventy-seven years past!

mickey_mouse_1934_balloon.jpg

We leave on Monday (and y’all need to be watching on Thursday).

There’s no word yet on which floats or balloons will be around our section of the parade, but I’ve heard rumors that we might be following right behind this one.

I approve… :thumbsup2

Chapter 7:
The tail of: “The Tale” - Day 4 (Wednesday)

Part 1: Navi-s & Mag-s (Day-4)

Y’all know the drill.
Our port of call for today?

“No Where”!

As usual I’ll start off with the ship’s Navigator for today (because these might actually be of some use to y’all).

And then (and also as usual)… Our door magnets for the day.
and again… you can just ignore this dreck if you so desire

(you could click on each image to see enlarged versions…
but I’d advise against it)

The main theme-o-the-day …

The one that’s always there…

A Mickey for each of us…

The extras that somehow managed to wrangle their way out of the folder.

And the one that could be considered a warning…

A3-011.jpg

It was our turn to pass out F/E gifts today and that one was part of the package. If any of the other cruisers that were in our F/E Group thought to check our door that day… they’d have seen that a copy of this one was on it way to their cabins later on.

Chapter 7:
The tail of: “The Tale” - Day 4 (Wednesday)

Part 2: Taking time to smell the flowers

D07-201.jpg

Matador: "Whassa matta with you, you crazy bull? Fight!”

Ahhhhhhhh… a new day… a new chapter… a new theme… It’s as if spring were busting out all over. Well… except for it being summer already, but you get the gist of what I’m saying here. And there’s a bonus in this chapter that y’all should really be tickled to see.

And what might that be you ask?

Brevity…

You see… I took very few pictures this day and made relatively few notes to jog my memory of it as well. Given these parameters, I’ll be rolling through near half the day in this short update alone. There just won’t be near as many details assaulting either you eyes or sensibilities (and many of you will find this brief respite to be a good thing). It’s not that we weren’t doing anything this day; it’s just that a lot of what we were doing involved heavy doses of not doing much. You can plan, and plan, and plan some more and try to fill up every moment of every day of a trip, but every once and a while you just need to sit back and take a bit of a break. Recharge… just enjoy the moment. And of the five days we spent aboard the Disney Dream, this was the perfect day for it… because this was a Sea Day.

D07-202.jpg

When I woke (well ahead of everyone else… as usual) I decided to head up top-side and see what I could see. As that last image will attest, what I didn’t see for the first time on this trip… was land. I could certainly see water though. Everywhere, in all directions… stretching off toward the horizon was a shimmering carpet of sapphire. The picture doesn’t show it properly, but the color of deep ocean water is mesmerizing. If you’ve never been out of site of land, then you really haven’t seen the blue that I’m trying to describe. It’s vivid… deep… lustrous… almost breathtaking. Photographs just don’t’ do it justice. I’ve taken picture after picture of deep ocean waters, and the camera just will not reproduce the color that my eyes see (of course it may be my eyes that are busted, but I can live with that).

D07-203.jpg

Sea Days (depending on your temperament) are either the bane or the jewel tucked inside longer cruses. Without a port of call to pull passengers off of the ship, you can be very certain that the more popular shipboard activities will be in very high demand.

D07-204.jpg

If you like being frustrated, pick this day to do all the shipboard activities that your kids wanted to take part in. It’s a bit like going to the EMH-Park of the day. There will be lines… there will be waiting… there will be someone constantly between you and your destination.

So what’s a Disney veteran to do with a see day? Well… if you have the extra funds available, it’s a good time to check out the Spa and spend a little bit of time getting pampered.

D07-205.jpg

D07-206.jpg

Those were stock pictures… I’ve never had “extra” funds available, so as of yet… I’ve not had the opportunity to check out any of the offerings here (but I’ve read rave reviews form those that have tried it out).

The way we went about dealing with the crowd today was to find a nice spot to just sit back and relax while watching everyone else run around like a headless chickens. We got to Cabana’s early for breakfast and therefore got out on Deck-11 early and were able to score a couple of lounge chares that looked out over the family pool and toward the Jumbotron. Also being out early, the line for the Aqua-Duck was still manageable, so we took turns taking solo rides on the coaster

D07-207.jpg

Why solo rides? Well… what we were actually doing was taking turns occupying the deck chairs or we wouldn’t have had them for long (especially not on a sea day). Basically this was the pattern for the morning. A lap around the ship on “The Duck”… a little time in the sun… a little time in the pool… some ice-cream or a cookie here and there… just kind’a takin’ it easy. At one point Max and I walked up to the Goofy golf course, but there was quite the line by this time of the day. I was willing to “do the queue” (I mean, I’m a Dis Vet… I can out “stand” you average tourist), but it was Max that wasn’t interested in the wait (not surprising… I can out “stand” my son too). So… more chillin’ was the activity that won out in that instance.

After an active morning of relative inactivity… we gave up our prime real-estate to the first lucky soles that happened by (and being unprepared newbies to cruising… they were mightily glad to have received this gift). We then headed back to the cabin to clean up a bit and rolled into Cabana’s for a little bit of grub. I thought about hitting one of the dinning rooms for lunch (and sea days are a mighty fine times for this by the way), but, we actually hadn’t tried the midday fair on the buffet yet this trip and decided that this would be a good time to do so.

There’s a good deal to choose from at Cabana’s around lunch time and it’s a lot easier to overeat here then in the main dinning rooms. That seem s backwards, but it true. At dinner, you may be served a bread course, an appetizer, soup & salad, an entrée, and multiple desserts, but the portions are controlled to the point that once the meal is over, you’re pleasantly full (as opposed to being miserable). At Cabana’s… something cathes your eye and you get a bit. You see something else you get a bit more, and so on. Before you know it… you’re sprawled out on a padded lounge chair along the promenade deck in a mid-afternoon carb-induced stupor while imbibing a rum saturated liquid and just watching that gorgeous azure water glide by in the distance….

D07-208.jpg

Oh wait… that’s actually a good thing.

At least until you wake up afterward…

Chapter 5: more of: “The Tale” - Day 2 (Mon)

It wasn’t the front row, but we still had a space near all the amenities that came equipped with a couple of loungers, a beach chair or two and a big ol’ bumbershoot for some shade.

I am so totally loving this TR! I am up to this particular point and I am so excited to see someone use the word "bumbershoot"! I love the sun so I only use a bumbershoot when it is raining!

I am gonna go read the rest! Thank you so much for sharing!

:welcome:

Thanks for chiming in and I’m glad to have you along.

So… you read up to that point just today? And then went on and read some more... of my writing??? Some folks might call that crazy… but I’m still glad to have you follow along.

I thought everyone still used bumbershoot on a regular bases. No… must just be me then. Actually, I remember writing that bit of the TR. I almost use the word “brolly” (and yah… I know that’s an “English slang term as opposed to an American or even a Southern one), but I’d have lost even more of you.

Again... welcome aboard.

Well folks… We’re finishing up the packing for the next trip. It ain’t Disney… but it will certainly be an adventure. . I’ll be up at the school loading gear onto the busses at about 4:30 this morning. And then it’s off to the Big Apple (well… Jersey at least but well head into the city several times across the next week.). I’ll see y’all again when I get back and then I’ll have to start up a second TR. I wonder if I can look after two at once or if I should finish this one first? Hummmmm…. Will have to think about that one.

Anyway… I hope all y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday! And… if you have nothing better to do Thursday morning… I understand that there’s a little parade that will be airing around (9:00 or so with some pretty entertaining musical acts included.

See ya’ Then!
