Experiences in the Disney Program

My advice:

1) Take a class! I didn't take one as I was burnt out on school having just graduated. I regret this everyday! I know some of the classes aren't amazing, but they all offer something valuable for you to learn.

2) Talk to everyone you meet in the company...networking is important to any career and you never know what doors you may open, by just going out on a limb.

3) The friends you make really will become family! I can't explain it, but it's the honest truth! I was supposed to be a character performer in 2003, but I waited to come down until I graduated--these friends were the reason why. It was fate...no doubt in my mind!

4) While you should do things outside of the parks once in a while, on the flipside, DO things IN the parks! My best friend came down and didn't spend hardly any time in the parks during her program. She lost a lot of the experience.

5) DO NOT GET MARRIED! Please, please, please... I'm begging you. She married another cp she met here on the last day of her advantage program. Mistake. Fall in love if you will, even go so far to get engaged, but PLEASE give it time...

6) BE SAFE! Disney is not a magic bubble which protects all who reside inside, as many of the guests seem to think. There are dangers both on, and especially OFF PROPERTY. This part of Orlando is great, and I do love it, but Orlando is a big city and I will warn you to remain vigilant--especially the ladies. Crazy things happen here all the time... missing women, children, gangs, drug deals gone bad, murder... and the economy isn't helping! I still very safe here mostly, due to the LBV area, but I hate watching the local news sometimes. It creeps me out and makes me sad.

7) Don't call in needlessly! Seriously, don't. It will stay on your record. The beach is NOT that important. Plan things on your days off and trade shifts in advance.

8) Gather your friends for a big family-style holiday dinner. We had a big Easter dinner during my CP. It was great...

9) Trust that even if you HATE every second of it, you will learn and grow from it,...and once you're gone, you will realize how much you love and can barely live without it!

10) Take the straight and narrow path, and if you start to slide,
give a little whistle! Give a little whistle!
And, always let your conscience be your guide!

Wow the advice is just getting better and better!:goodvibes Thanks again everyone who has contributed and to those who have yet to write something. I'm soo happy this thread is getting so much attention I'm really gaining a lot from reading other peoples advice and experiences!! Thanks again!:) I can't wait for my CP to start so I can post my own experiences!

Bump! I just thought maybe some of the people who just got accepted would be interested in what some of the people who have done the program had to say!:)

From not getting enough hours to complete my internship, to finding flea like bugs all over my bed, it's not always the best. The one thing I will say is that I learned new techniques to handle guests, and considering where I work back at home, this helps me beyond belief.

Wow I'm sorry this happened =/.

I will admit I wanted to go home the first month in but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. I will agree with you on learning how to handle all types of people, and learning techniques for certain situations because no matter what job you're in that will be helpful.

One of my favorite experiences in the program was volunteering at Give Kids the World. I highly recommend that you volunteer a few days.

When I saw the info on Give Kids the World I was very interested, can anyone share any info and stories?? I would love to hear them.
