I probably have over $1000 on various gf's on multiple cards.....I have always been nervous of security /any other issues etc when transferring them to one card on the Disney gift card site...has anyone ever had an issue? Thanks so much in advance.

I have never had an issue. I combine and still save each of the cards just in case, but I've never had an issue.

No issues with Disney gift cards. Its a great feature being able to combine them online.

What I usually do is bring two Disney gift cards. One has the full value and is in my wallet. The other has $0 and I leave it packed in my luggage in case I either lose the primary card or it stops working for some reason (they use the magnetic strip). If either of those happen (it hasn't), all I have to do is sign on and transfer the full balance to the other card.

I just did this the other day. You create an account and name your cards -- the transfers between cards is instant and you receive an email of your transaction -- so i added a bunch of cards, then transefered balance to one card and then deleted the ones that no longer had a balance.

I do the same as @richmo: combine a number of cards onto one and save one gift card that has -0- balance. I usually give the gift cards to my CM friend so I use a Sharpie and write the total amount on the “full” card and -0- in the other so there’s never any confusion especially because I’m the one with the online account...if only I could remember the password. ;)

Just one thing to keep in mind - once you consolidate the amounts onto one card, you can't assign a smaller value to a different card. For instance, if I have a card with $300 on it and I want to assign $50 of it to my son's card, I can't. It is a transfer of balance transaction, so it is all or nothing.

I have never had any issues combining gift cards. We pay our trips off with disney gift cards and we also use disney gift cards for all food and souvenirs for our trip. You can merge up to $1,000 per card. On the website I name each one - Disney Dining Card, Disney Spending and Trip Payment.

I keep all gift cards used to pay the trip off just in case something happens... in September we had to cut our trip short 2 nights because of the hurricane, so we were refunded 2 nights at our resort. I actually did not keep the gift cards that I paid with for that trip, but Disney was able to send me a new gift card with the refund on it, which was great.. but now I keep them just in case.

I really should do this, but am a huge chicken I will screw it up. I have a stack of gift cards with a rubber band around them...ugh.

If you can match numbers, you can do this. :)

Try it with only listing 2 of your cards. Transfer the balance from Card#2 to Card#1 and you’ll see it’s quite easy.

disneygiftcard.com is the site you manage your gift cards on. It can not be done through MDE.

I have paid for the vast majority of my onsite expenditures the past 2 trips with gift cards. We purchase numerous $500 gift cards, and then combine them as the trip progresses. Last year we had I think $3000 in gift cards in total. I started by combining 2 cards together so I had one card with $1000 on it, one with $0, and then 4 more with $500 each.

I marked the card with the $0 balance as my backup card, and marked the card with the $1000 balance as my primary card. The backup card went with my wife, the primary card went with me. In this way, should I lose the primary card, I could transfer anything left on it over to the backup card. Each time the primary card balance went below $500, I transferred another card onto it. No problems, quick and easy.

Tip for keeping up with gift cards: I buy $25 gift cards from the Disney Gift Card website in unique designs and those are the cards I keep. I then buy the ones in the grocery of the same 2 or 3 designs that over 90% of the people at WDW carry and add those to the unique cards. When in the parks, I can pick out my card by sight. So far, I have not had a CM indicate they have seen that card before and most comment on how cute it is.

For example, I bought one with Tinker Bell featured for myself and I have used it to add various gift cards for four trips now. I got my sister one with Rapunzel that she has used for her last two trips. This way we knew which card was which at a glance.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions....I just charge everything to the room an use them to pay off the balance. I always feel bad handing the cast member a stack of gift cards.

I like to separate the balance between a few cards. I give my kids a small allowance for their souvenirs, so they each get a card. My wife and I carry separate cards and we keep another one in the room safe. If any cards are lost, we can transfer the balance on the website to one of the other cards.

Using the gift card website is easy -- just a pain because they only let you keep 5 on there, so you need to add a few, transfer the balance, and then delete the empty ones.

My plan is to have one large one for the trip (hotel, restaurants) and have a small one for my son to use for gift cards so he understands the idea of a limit. I would rather teach that lesson with cash, but realistically I don't want him to potentially lose his money (nor do I want to carry it -- heh).

I often get different gift card designs with Disney Movie Reward points to help differentiate them (like I just got a Guardians of the Galaxy and Moana themed Gift Card as opposed to the red Mickey one you get at stores).

I wish I could buy a giant $500-1000 gift card at Target, buying a bunch of $50/$100 is a pain to enter in and transfer the balances .. but in general well worth it due to the 5% discount from the Red Card.

This is exactly what I do! I've never needed the back up, but it is great to have if a card were to be lost or stolen.

Me too! I have a Christmas Tinkerbell and an Aristocrats.

thanks everyone I did it! put 2 cards with different pics on them on the site and transferred all the rest onto those 2. so from 14 cards to 2!

yeah! So easy, right?
