I'm considering trying Vitamin D to fight seasonal depression. Its not bad enough to take anti-depressents - at least since I've been planning a Feb. Disney trip each year :goodvibes!

Does anyone have experience with dosage?

Vitamin D deficiency is, for some reason, very very common these days.

Some doctors routinely prescribe very high doses of Rx vitamin D.
Mine did....
This is not something that you have to be worried about taking too much.

Vitamin D is not easily absorbed by the body when taken orally.

You should make sure that you get a high quality Vitamin D-3.

I order my D-3 from Swanson, 2000 i.u.
When I remember, and can fit it in around other Rx, I take one 2000 i.u. capsule every day.

Hope this helps!

Vitamin D can be produced in the body through exposure to sunlight. This type of Vitamin D is made naturally and is more readily used than Vitamin D taken in pill form. While you can certainly try to take a supplement, it isn't easily absorbed. You should also try to spend more time outside, if possible.

I've been hearing on news the importance of Vit D and it's actually the new cure all for lots of ailments. DH's was low and the past 2 yrs dr has him taking D3 2000IU a day. I was having terrible leg cramps at night and during recent physical bld test revealed low Vit D - Dr suggested 500 a day and I'm so thankfully something so simple relieved them :goodvibes! Good luck, hope it helps!

More and more doctors are now testing vitamin D levels as part of your blood work on your annual physical. We guard ourselves from sunshine to avoid skin cancer. If you are watching your fats, or just don't like milk, you may not get enough foods fortified with vitamin D. And the levels they recommend to stay healthy are increasing.

I startefd out at 1,000 units, then increased to 2,000 when the level still wasn't high enough. Then we went to 5,000 - I buy Nature Made brand at CVS or the CVS store brand. Both have a 5,000 unit pill. Its a tiny little thing so it is easy to take.

I think the new recommendation is for about 2,000 mg per day and 5,000 if you are deficient. You can't really hurt yourself with it.

I have tried a few brands I prefer taking the softgels of D3 in an oil form.
