Expensive Salon Shampoo vs. Drugstore Shampoo

I use Bumble and Bumble styling products/treatments but drugstore shampoo and conditioner. I liked the B&B shampoo and conditioner (I have think hair) but it wasn't soooo different that I felt like I needed to spend the extra money. The styling products, however, are worth their weight in gold (at least for my hair).

I also split facial care between drugstore and MD/Decleor. I use drugstore cleanser and day time moisturizer but MD for treatments and Decleor for night time, intense moisturizer. I didn't find a big difference with cleansers at all.

How do you like the Bumble and Bumble? I was going to try their defrizz product. My hair tuns into a frizz bomb in the humidity.

I use Bed Head Moisture Maniac or Biolage which ever is BOGO when I run out and CHI Silk Infusion. I used to use the drugstore shampoo and conditioner but it made my hair dryer especially now that I use the flat iron. I still use Suave hairspray though.

My hairdresser knows when I've resorted to using the cheap stuff (it's actually amazing that she can tell by the condition of my hair!) I get my roots touched up every 4 weeks, so my hair takes a lot of abuse from the dyes. I use Rene Furterer (sp?) and I just bought a years supply from my stylist. It's a lot of $$ to put out at once, but then I don't have to buy it for a long time.

I just wish I could find something that works all the time. Most of the products I've purchased - store and salon - seem to stop working after a couple of months.

My hair is really thick, grows really fast, some gray and the strangest of all ... from my roots down to about my ears it is straight as a stick but at about my ears it starts to get wavy. I can't straighten the waves and I can't curl the straight part, at least not very well.

I'm going in tomorrow to ask again what I'm doing wrong. The first time I asked she said it was due to not using salon gel and some finishing type paste.

I use the expensive stuff. I use all CHI products on my hair because I get my hair colored and straightened and I guess they guarantee it only if I use their products. I really like all the CHI products. I can't say for sure that they're that much better, but my stylist tells me my hair is healthier.

Wow. That's a good way to sell retail--"I'll only guarentee my services if you buy my product." For 25 years I have guarenteed mine w/o. What have I been thinking.

I use the expensive hair prodcuts. I have really curly hair that frizz easily. I use the redken prodcuts. I used to use the cheaper things but it made my head itch so bad. Apparently I'm allergic to some kind of something in the other stuff. I used to use Loreal Vive.

You know what I find interesting is the different water can mess with hair. When I'm at my mom's with the same hair products my hair is still a bit flat but my house it's fine.

Different water makes a huge difference. Hard, soft...etc.

I think Bumble and Bumble is one of the best lines I have ever tried.

I happen to think shampoo does not make that much difference. I do, however, think you have to use the right kind for your hair type. I'm betting everyone could find a cheap brand they love AND a salon product they love.
I cannot tell who uses what, I really can't.
Nowadays so many companies have parent companies that make both that there seems to be good everywhere. Years ago, I think that salon products were superior. JMHO and likely unpopular belief.

I always keep 2 bottles of different shampoo in my shower and change it up because I agree with you. I have heard over and over this is not true but from personal experience, I believe it.

I had a stylist who used that Pureology stuff and man is that stuff $$! She tried to tell me "you only need to use a little". It didn't do anything miraculous, and for that price, it should I do use salon products, but the prices do kill me, and I wonder also if it is necessary.
As far as facial products go, and having been to a dermatologist a couple of times, I now know NOT to buy that expensive stuff. All of the samples she gave me were things you can buy in any local discount store. J&J Purpouse products are a good example

I like pantine myself. It does the best job of keeping my hair healthy without breaking the bank. I do think the really cheap shampoos to more harm than good, and I don't want to spend the money on the salon shampoos on the off chance it might make a slight difference.

Shampoo and conditioner can make a world of difference. I am waiting on my order of shampoo and have been using my DH's. I really miss my old shampoo & conditioner a lot.

That said price isn't always everything. Also what works great on one head won't work well at all on another. Right now I am using Alterna Caviar. It's the only shampoo I have used for years that I found keeps working as well as it did on day 1. Plus I love the smell. I use Chi for strengthening products. I haven't found a curl cream I like yet.

If your hair is long, the weight of your hair is likely pulling it straight at the roots, but once it reaches ear level, it's not affected as much.

Tonic goes on first, curl creme second when I wear my hair curly.....tonic, hair thickener and defrizz when I straighten it. Styling creme I use on my bangs before I blow them out. I like all the products I use from B&B and I do think they are worth the money. Before using their curl creme, I never wore my hair curly b/c it never looked right - my hair is curly/wavy, not super curly. I do have thicker hair that can handle heavier product but the curl creme comes in thin to medium or medium to thick weights.

I was not a big believer in the tonic when my stylist first asked me if I wanted to buy it. I tried it and didn't see the benefit thought it was just a ploy to get more of my money. Then I tried using the other products without the tonic and they just didn't work the same (stiff hair in some places, frizz in others) --- the tonic really acts like a base so the other products you use get applied evenly. I'm a tonic convert.

Is your hair straight or curly? Thick or thin? Not sure defrizz alone on curly hair will be enough.

My hair is so frizzy if I don't apply product to it. What I've been using is the Redken Straightening Cream (which leaves my hair still curly but manageable). It still has a frizz appearance to it though. I'm looking for something that will make the curls look nice but something that I can also put in to straighten it out. I try and limit the flat iron because I don't want to burn my hair off.

I do have a salon close by but it's not the one I typically go to so I was thinking of placing an order online. Drugstore.com has the deFrizz. It's actually not as pricy as I thought.

I spray the tonic onto damp hair then squirt a quarter size amount of curl creme to my hair. I blow out my side swept bangs and leave for work. My curls are defined, frizz-less and my hair does not look stiff when it dries. I have tried almost every curl product out there and I have never found one that made my curls look curly without looking like I had slicked my hair in gel or like a q-tip with fuzz everywhere.

I was wondering about the salon b/c a person at a B&B salon could tell you what weight curl creme would work best and also tell you how it would work out as a straighting product.

Maybe I should consider a career with B&B?

I have to say that I just started using B J's brand conditioner that compares to an expensive brand. It is supposed to be volumizing like all the other brands. Would you know that it works? My hair feels huge! It is a huge bottle for $4.99!

I have the shampoo but haven't started using it. I still have the Pantene from BJ's.

I use the expensive stuff as well. Was using Biolage but now I am a firm beleiver in the WEN product line. You can only get it on QVC (or if you go to this Salon in CA). I have been using it for about 9 months now and I just love it. It is not actually a shampoo. It is a cleansing conditioner without the harsh shampoo stuff. So, it is an all in one product that does not lather. It has worked wonders on my hair. I use a straightening iron everyday and my hair would get so damaged. Not anymore - it styles much better and not frizzy and fly-away. I sure can notice the difference when I now use a different shampoo. It is spendy but worth it. (About $28 for a 16 oz bottle - but lasts for about 4-6 weeks).

I personally dont care which salon brand you use, but it makes a difference being salon or not.

What kind of hair do you have? Whats it like - what's your biggest complaint about it? What does it do you lik,e or dont like?
