Expensive Mistake

I found out that I have made a very expensive mistake. I did not buy enough points when we bought our resale from TTS.

We plan to go to WDW at least twice a year and now we are spoiled and have to stay in a 1br. Ok, it is indulgent but a studio with an autistic 4 yr old spells disaster.:scared1:

I need to get 34 more points each year to have enough points. That is if we keep in the lowest season. I am thinking about buying 50.

How do I go about getting the points I need? Disney direct? TSS with higher closing? I don't care about home resort this time as we have our contract with OKW and never travel in busy times.

I just had to rent 98 points for our 1 br. this trip....expensive!!!!

Also, do I wait until I get the last 1/3 paid off or just do it and take the hit?

Thanks friends, April

Hi April
I think you have caught the Disney Disease ,,lol
My heart goes out to you --friends of mine and parents of kids I work with usually take an Ikea pop up tunnel and tent with them when staying in a hotel room, their kids seem to like this. I know I have used a tent in my class as a quiet space and it works. If you have to add on (I know this is a hardship);)
atleast OKW price per point is reasonable. I'd try Disney direct and I bet they have the points avaliable immediately if not very soon.
Hugs to you and your family
Mel

I personally would just add on through DVC, sure its more expensive, but you could get exactly what you want. Or just keep borrowing, and know once every couple of years, you won't have points!

I would add on directly with DVC. My original purchase was resale, but I planned to add on later in small increments. (However, my add on was bigger than the original contract. :rolleyes1 )

I had an excellent experience with the TSS, but calling my guide at 9:30, a return call from him at 9:40 and 70 additional points in my account by 7 PM that same day was excellent!

Thanks friends,

Now, do I wait to buy until after I have the last 1/3 paid off or just do it now? I do have excellent credit and get offers constantly for low interest with balance transfer. I plan to use my Disney visa for the first part.

Thanks again...I guess I am getting more points:cool1:

Given this situation I would buy through Disney. You may want to take this opportunity to consider a different home resort possibly animal kingdom villas. I would say this even though at this point yet really care which home resort. You may also want to give it to or three years borrowing ahead to see how things go.

I agree with buying direct from DVC. You can get the same UY you have now which allows you to book that 1 BDm sooner! If you add on at another location, make sure you can get a ressie there with the number of points you need at the 11 month, or else you are stuck going there at the 7 month window with fewer rooms available. (yes yes, you can always bank and borrow but its is easier to do it in one swoop).

As for financing when you are still paying off the old, only you know your financial position and can determine if its affordable. We look forward to when ours are all paid off and will feel like we are really getting a "free vacation"!

Disney had Points available at OKW very recently. As has already been said they will match your existing use year and the add on process is very easy.
Has anyone got enough Points though ?

Phil

I would go through DVC. It really is a painless process and you will have the points in your account usually within a day! And, depending on your UY, you may even get the previous year's points :thumbsup2

Has anyone got enough Points though ?

Phil

well let's see...

initial contract 175 pts
10 months later 120 pt add-on
12 months later 120 pt add-on
12 months later 120 pt add-on

dh told me that I have to wait till CRV until the next add-on :sad2: party pooper!!

:rotfl: :rotfl:
