I went out for an early drink and meal with some friends from work and I lost my car key. We didn't have a spare  but luckily the garage had one as we had just ordered one a week ago. The call-out charge and cost to re-programme the new key in the car park came to a total fo £385! The man needed to plug his laptop into the car and reset it. Needless to say it took him just 20 minutes, but I was charged for 2 hours because of the travelling time it took him and an extra fee for it being out of hours  I am going to have to be so careful with the key in the future.... :(

Poor You - things like that are so frustrating (and expensive)

:sad1: I know exactly how you feel, my car has been playing up for 3 weeks now, it just keep conking out on us. We've paid £350 and it still isn't right and I feel lost without it. £385 seems so extortionate for a 20 minute job, but at least it's done now :)

Good grief Frances! That's daylight robbery!!!

Ouch :earseek:

Hope you at least had a nice evening out!

Thank god for my local garage man
same thing happened ,i just came home
he went and got the car open and then took it back for me
Don't think he even charged us

I would have loved to have called a local (hopefully cheaper) garage, but apparently only the main dealer has the necessary equipment/codes to gain entry  Typical! Sometimes I wonder whether all this security is really for keeping the car safe, or just so that you are forced to call them in an emergency!

Just trying to find some info......

Recently, I saw an advert for a national company that held spare house and car keys with 1 hour call out for a small monthly fee.

Can't for the life of me remember the company or site name but will post when I find it.
