Expedition Everest Challenge May 5 @ 9:30 2012

ok thanks, good to know. What type of id etc should i take with me does anyone know??

I think any form of official picture I'd is acceptable...drivers license, passport, etc. I always have just used my license.

Well, back to the treadmill it is for me b/c we have snow again!! and a good amount of it too.

While this makes me SAD b/c i was enjoying being outside for jogs and enjoying soaking up some sun on my skin before our trip I have to admit that I'm also a bit HAPPY to see it being a bit colder again. It gives me hope that the mild winter was just that - a mild winter - and that there is a chance that the temps will normalize (is that a word?? lol) and that we can expect normal "MAY" temps for our trip and not temps that are a month ahead as in June temps in May!!!

Is it still warmer than normal for the rest of you? Or is it getting more seasonal like it is for us?

We had a week of summer like weather in March and after that it's been more normal. Some nice days, but not overly warm. It's suppose to snow tomorrow- yuck!

Is it still warmer than normal for the rest of you? Or is it getting more seasonal like it is for us?

Still been cold here for us - the sun has managed to make it out a few times lately but brrrrr!

I've been practicing for Florida temps by spending a lot of time in the sauna at the gym. :rotfl:

So, what's everyone doing for training? two times/week? three times/week?

I'm TRYING for 3 times/week but sometimes just get in the two. Today i would be doing my 3rd run of the week but I'm really not in the mood and I said to DH - hmmm, should I go for a run?? or should I just say - eh, it's a holiday weekend and take it easy??
He said Oh, take it easy I say.

So, he's no help for motivation. :rotfl2:

it's VERY sweet that he's all for whatever is the easiest thing for me - he likes my life to be happy and easy. haha but it's not so good on getting some motivation from him.

So, just wondering what everyone else is doing for training. I think I'll still throw in a run later this evening anyway. We'll see.

Hi, how has the outside been for your poor lungs?

March gave us record high temperatures, approaching 90 last weekend, and with humidity to boot - blek! I've been keeping up with the temps in Florida as well and we've only been a few degrees below them. At least it was getting me used to the hot weather but, boy, I was not ready for this to last until September!

Thankfully, the weather is cooling down to beautifully clear and humidity-free days in the 70s and snuggly nights in the 40s - that's more my speed. It was nice to go outside this morning to do whatever it is that I call running and start out feeling a little chilly. It's a bad thing to start out warm, at 6:30 am, in the middle of March, ugh.

Your husband sounds like a sweetheart and he'd be terrible for me, too. It is definitely more my nature to NOT exercise than TO exercise. I have discovered that, if I miss more than my one allotted day of 'running' or walking, then I find myself in a big blue funk - weird, it's as if my body is getting addicted to those exercise endorphins or something. Wish my knees got that message - they've been pretty unhappy at all of this new activity in my life.

About 'running' - still doing the 1:00/1:00 run/walk intervals - I do go three times per week and walk on my off days. For the past few weeks, I've been doing this for 3 miles and, this morning, my time was 16 minutes per mile. Still not fast for running but, hey, still faster than that couch!

I think I'll sign up for a 5K on Friday [April 13]. It's not too far from home and will give me an idea of what to expect in a more competitive situation.

Four weeks from tonight!!!

I had been religously doing 2 short runs per week and 1 long run on the weekend. Now, I am doing it as I can - no real pattern, but I do still usually do 3.1 miles at least once per week. I have been walking a lot on non run days too - usually a very brisk walk with the dog - 2 miles in about 35 minutes.

Happy Easter everyone!
I'm so excited! Yesterday I went out to run a 3 miler with my little teammate for EEC and she did great, thank goodness! She's either been practicing or it's just because she's young :) she was able to complete the 3 miles in 42 minutes...we went with half mile intervals with a 1 min walk break at each half mile. It seemed to work good for her so I think we'll stick with that for the race itself. Anyway, she was thrilled with herself and I was so proud of her...and relieved that I at least know she can do it without pushing too hard or being miserable. She even said she would want to sign up for some more 5ks in our area, so I'm really excited about that!

Hi, how has the outside been for your poor lungs?
I have had to start running inside again b/c of the snow. Even though I found the outside jogs harder I was starting to enjoy them more b/c of the change in scenery - I'm sad to be stuck staring at the white wall again and I think that's why i didn't get my third run in this week. So it's tough outside still for my lungs but much more enjoyable anyway. i do find that sticking with the Galloway method of run aprox. 2/walk 1 seems to help my lungs to not get over used so i will stick with that method for now and see how it goes.

It is a problem. LOL I love that he's sweet and wants me to relax but I had decided last night to give it a go on the treadmill and I only mentioned it to him b/c I didn't know where my runners were - he told me where he had put them and then said HEY, i thought you weren't going to run today?? and then he said again I should just take it easy. What a nut!!! LOL - silly me - I listened!!

wow! Good for you getting out SSOO much!! I've been running 2 and 3 times/week but not the whole 5k and I also get out and do flyers (half my daughters route) 3 times/week so that's another 40 minutes of brisk walking while hauling heavy flyers and doing stairs too. I think I need to add on some walks with my dog too though just to make sure I'm used to being on the go even more before we leave in 2 and a half weeks.

Happy Easter to you too!! And to everyone else :goodvibes

That's GREAT that your running partner is doing so well! I don't hound my dd as much anymore since she's doing better than I have been with training. LOL. I guess they can just handle it better. Lucky them.

We've been training three days/week. DH is still on the C25K plan and I've been doing the Jeff Galloway Easy 5K.

I ran my first full 5K last night in about 47 minutes!! I was so super excited about doing it in the time limit!! And we still have 3.5 weeks to go!! I guess I just feel so much better now that I know I can do it. :cloud9:

Now I have a question for the ladies. Rather, ladies with a little extra "baggage" up top ;). I purchased a cheap set of Hanes sports bras from Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago, and they seemed to be okay but not great. After last night, I think I'm definitely going to need something that can hold the girls down a bit better than what I have now. Any suggestions?

I also noticed something last night...when I run faster, my ankle hurts less. It didn't actually hurt last night, but it was on its way to hurting. I began turning the pace up on the treadmill, just to see what I could tolerate, and I found that my ankle didn't hurt one bit. I think I also may have had my first "runner's high" when my legs didn't feel as tired after about 40 minutes. Now I just need my lungs to start feeling the same way!!

Just whining: we were supposed to go out for an early morning run today but my allergies have totally gotten the best of me! I feel like I got hit by a truck!

I'm hoping I feel better soon as my dad and I are already behind schedule!

Hope everyone is doing well! :)

Right?! Waaaay too early for 90s. :sad2:

::yes:: It just seems to come so easily to them! I'm not above admitting that I'm jealous of my child's ability to totally slack-off on training and then turn it on come race day, lol!

:woohoo: Wooo hooo! Isn't it a good feeling?! :goodvibes

Now I have a question for the ladies.
I'm sorry, I'm of no help on that one, but I've heard form others that Champion makes some nice ones.

Just whining: we were supposed to go out for an early morning run today but my allergies have totally gotten the best of me! I feel like I got hit by a truck!
:hug: Fellow Floridian, I feel your allergy pain - it's BRUTAL down here! :headache:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morning! Less than a month to go :banana::banana::banana:
About weather: we got a cold front in over the weekend and it's been blissfully cooler in the mornings, more like "normal" for this time of year! It definitely took the edge off of my Sat. run - 5+ miles (my longest yet) that included going over a tall bridge twice. Happy to report that I finished with an average pace of 12:30 and enough energy to go grocery sopping and do laundry!
Training: my weeks look like this...
M: 30-40 minute run
T: cross train (usually PT and yoga or pilates)
W: 30-40 minute run
Th: cross train (usually upper-body focused Wii Active)
F: rest
Sat: long run
Sun: walk or cross train
I truly believe that sports bra shopping is as bad as swimsuit shopping...I'm forever on a quest for the best one and I absolutely hate it, but for me they are as important as my shoes! For a while now I've been wearing the Champion 360 Max Support sports bra and I like it pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of the Champion brand...I always feel like it just doesn't fit me right (except for the C9 line at Target, for some reason) but a couple of their bras seem to work for me. You can find their better ones either online or at sporting goods stores...and they are all listed in specific "activity level" groupings too to make it easier to find one that's suited for the impact of the activity you'll be using it for...I always go for the ones with the maximum support. I've heard alot of runners also like Moving Comfort sports bras...I can't remember if I've ever tried one of those or not, but I do hear alot about them. Good luck on your search!
KigerKat - there is a thread somewhere around here with a discusson on big girls sports bras. If I find it - I will post the link here.
I am trying to do crosstraining 3 days a week. I am still not a runner and really hoping there is no sweeping involved. There wasn't in the Marathon Weekend Family Fiesta 5K - or I was ahead of it if there was.
Did anyone get the email this morning?
It was a little confusing - but it looks like I signed the waiver online. But as for the post race party - I didn't have any extra ticket purchases....I ended up calling - and they said I was ok. Weird.
I have not yet received an email from runDisney today...so it included a link to the waivers?? figures...since it really would have helped me to have it this past weekend. :headache: oh well. I just checked the race website and didn't see a link there...hopefully I'll get the email soon though.
I'll look for it, too, but the search feature here isn't always user friendly.
Yay for getting another email this week!! I haven't gotten mine yet, but I'm guessing they are probably sending them out in waves. Hopefully, we'll all get one by the end of the day.
I haven't received an email today yet.
KigerKat re bras: I got fitted at a local specialty store a few years ago, but now I buy my bras here: http://www.freshpair.com/. You can search by type of bra, size etc. The one I have is Panache brand.
Ooh! I know this one. The answer is the Enell Sports Bra. They're not the most attractive underthings but they really work. :)
I've become a fan of the Moving Comfort Vixen sports bra - plenty of room, support and for the high impact sports. :)
