Expedition Everest Challenge 2014

Watching the run disney/new balance video for 2014 and they feature inserts for the races and one appears to be EEC... If it was not happening would they make? Or made months ago??? Was hoping it was another good sign

I saw an ad in a December issue of Runners Magazine for EEC next year so I'm pretty sure it's a go (I hope). It's a good sign at least

I agree the weekend is a go.

Just in what format(s) is the question.

Just call it a 10K, since that's what we ended up doing, anyway!!

Can't wait until registration starts. Soooo glad someone saw a magazine ad for 2014. If Disney paid to advertise it, it's a good sign. Unless, of course, Disney owns that magazine, too~

I do NOT think it will turn into a "May the 4th be with you" event, since the 4th won't fall on a weekend for another few years after 2014 (Sunday).

Any thoughts on which resorts will be the official host resorts? I see that last year it was AS sports, CB, and AKL--but I'm hoping that if it becomes a bigger event, there will be more host resorts to choose from.

Oh---and does anyone know the minimum age to go to the post race party on your own? I was thinking of being a "team" with my 12 year old son, but also bringing along my 14 year old son (he won't be interested in racing). Will Disney allow the 14 year old be able to wait at our resort, board the bus, and attend the party by himself, meeting up with the 12 year old and I when we are done? I thought I saw something about the minimum age to go to the park without a parent as 14, but wasn't sure if the rules were different for these race parties. Thanks!

Nothing is set until Disney announces, but this is copied from the active.com link someone posted above (thanks for the link, BTW).

Pacing Requirement:
There will be a 16 minute per mile pacing requirement for the 5K adventure run portion of the race

FINALLY! Glad to see something "official" looking. Now if they would just update the website...

Yes, I am so happy to see it’s coming soon! I was getting worried. Going to be my first runDisney event and I am excited!!

Do you get a discount on RunDisney races by being an active.com member?

I am an Active Advantage member, and the discount (waived/reduced processing fee) did not apply to the runDisney races I've registered for (2014 marathon weekend and princess races).

Now to convince DH to fly out just the two of us for the race....perhaps a late 35th bday present.

The Expedition Everest challenge is listed on the Mickey Monitor winter issue for May 3-4,2014.It says registration opens in December, what's the delay with info on the website.

The Everest Challenge ad in my December 2013 issue of Runner's World states:

"Expedition Everest Challenge May 2-3, 2014

Whether it's the thrill of racing through Disney's Animal Kingdom Park at night, the fun-filled scavenger hunt or something more abominable, you'll find plenty of reasons to head to the 2014 Expedition Everest Challenge. Overcome obstacles with your teammate in the 5k course, then celebrate with a private party in the Park. The wild awaits. Registration opens December 17, 2013.

Visit runDisney.com for your reminder to register."

So... whether they stick to that or not, who knows! But that's what the ad says.

:sunny:

I saw that too!

Hi guys! I REALLY want to do this event. It would be my first rundisney event. I see the site and everyone talking about host hotels. So are these the only hotels they want us to stay at? What if we stay outside the park? I just want a feel for how the logistics work.

Thanks!

The benefit of staying at a host hotel is that they are the only resorts that offer transportation to the events related to the race. This means that there will be dedicated buses going to and from host resorts to the Wide World of Sports to pick up your registration packet (and Family Race if they are doing that again this year) as well as to and from the Animal Kingdom for the race and party.
If you stay at a non-host resort or not on Disney property, you are 100% responsible for your own transportation.

Host hotels are the Disney hotels that will have buses running from between the hotel and the expo and between the hotel and the race.If you're staying offsite or at a non host Disney hotel you either need to have a car or call a taxi.

At least the date is changed on the rundisney.com site now. But I wish they would update the rest of the info, I booked CBR and want to make sure it is still a host resort!

It's sad isn't it. A multi billion dollar company holding this multi million dollar entity cannot get a decent IT support.

While this is not my favorite race in the series, I will run it for the streak in 2014.

So glad to finally see some confirmation on this. Now just to decide if we can swing it for the 3rd year in a row.

On the subject of getting to the race, we've done the buses one year and drove last year. Because the course started and ended in the parking lot, it made things very easy. We didn't have to worry about bag check.
