Thinking of doing a quick week next year and looking at booking it ourselves rather than a package. Was looking at expedia for hotels as prices seem quite good. Does anyone have any feedback good or bad!?

Expedia are one of, if not the biggest hotel suppliers in the world.
Used them many times including last weekend in Midsomer Norton.
Only issue I have with them is room occupancy, twice we arrived to find a double bed with no child bed, both times had to wait for the hotel to get us a bed.
Saying that I very very rarely find good prices for the USA with them, always find better prices elsewhere.

I used them for the first time last year for the trip we took in June. We didn't stay onsite but booked the hotel and flight together and saved money straight away. It also counted as a package which was good insurance wise plus I went through Topcashback and got £158.77 back :goodvibes We also got nectar points.

We could log onto 'Manage your booking ' with Virgin the next morning through our confirmation e-mail, also had hotel ref. Definitely would use them again.

Yes, always check for cashback with Expedia. Agree with Wayne - they're a good baseline but usually not the cheapest you can find, although it may pay to be wary of lesser known sites. I found lots of good rates through a site called clever hotels when I was looking earlier this year but fortunately ended up booking elsewhere. Logged on recently to check them out for a friend and they've gone into administration, all bookings through them null and void. Lucky escape for me.....

I almost sent you a PM a few days ago to ask if you booked with them. I found out they had gone into admin so did a search on DIS and it came up with your post (from Jan IIRC) glad you didn't use them.
I was almost caught out in 2009, stayed at the Regal Sun opp DTD, while we were there the website I used went into admin, I saw the hotel manager who assured me they had been paid, I knew £25/nt was cheap :rotfl2: if we had checked in 2-3 days later I am sure we would have lost that one.

I used Expedia to book an airport hotel a few days ago. They were half the price I could find anywhere else for the same hotel and my 12.65% cashback through Topcashback tracked and hit my TCB account as fast as the email confirmation came in.

I was confident enough with Expedia to have booked flights through them if they had happened to have the best prices.

Thanks for the feedback. I ve used them for the odd night in Europe but never for a whole week in usa! I work at an airport and heard a few horror stories of money being taken but no bookings made! The prices do look good. May mean treating ourselves to a nicer hotel than normal! Love doing the research!

Defiantly will be looking in to this topcashback! Sounds great. The more money we can get for dollars the better! $$$$

We've used them loads. Last year we booked Barefoot n Resort through them at £150 for 3 nights. Perfect easy check in and we got cashback.

We just booked 3 nights at Rosen Centre, International Drive for £38 per night through Lastminute.com with cashback and a code from Trivago too.

I was just in the process of writing a reply to mention LM.com

I am looking for 9 nights in Jan, to show how expensive Expedia can be I just compared the Rosen Plaza. Not sure if the links will work but these are the prices Expedia & Last Minute are showing for my 9 nights.

Expedia £1,211

Best thing to do is when you are ready to book post the best deal you can find and ask if anyone can see better.

Wish I could say it was good judgement, but just luck that something else came up. Will be warier in the future though...

That Expedia vs LM comparison is crazy!

I had no problem using Expedia.

We got a week at AKL, pool view, for £1,092 in July/Aug this year with 10% Cashback. They provided our Disney booking reference without us even having to request it.

We even got £100 Cashback (10% offer).

I would definitely use them again for a standalone booking as WDTC wanted double that, but obviously you can't take advantage of free dining.

Wow those prices are def looking good! Just need to be brave enough to step out of my comfort zone (E.g virgin holidays!) and get quotes elsewhere. Did nt even consider last minute.com I ve used them for plenty of things before and they ve been great.
We had kinda written off a 2014 trip when we saw package prices but it seems a lot more do able d.i.y! There is def hope now! Just need to get my holiday account looking a bit healthier so we ll be in a position to snap up any bargains when they crop up! A few friends are there at the moment and seeing their pics has def given me the bug again!

We booked AKL through Expedia as the prices were cheaper (that was 2008). We looked at booking CSR for next year with them but they didn't have any rooms a year in advance, so we booked direct with Disney instead (and was able to pay a deposit).

But I've used them for booking flights and hotels (both combined and separately) lots of times before.

I would love to stay at disney but the trip is def gonna be on a budget!
Thinking more along the lines of a rosen inn in I drive.
Only looking at 7 nights even done a sample itinery already to see if we can fit everything in! It ll be odd going for a week but we re looking at this trip as an alternative to a weeks package holiday in Europe rather than to replace our usual fortnight trip!

That's exactly what we did as WDW cost the same for a week as a decent hotel and location in Europe (hotel only in Portugal was £2,500, got AKL for £1,000!)

We didn't find it weird going for a week - we made the most of it and did everything we wanted. We actually did as much in one week as we did last year with two (but last year the weather was awful, 9 days of solid rain).

It does pay to shop around, Expedia were the best price for me for my November stay with Topcashback 12.5% on top. I've noticed they are a lot more competitive recently and now offer better cancellation rates.

Some hotels now you don't even need to pay a deposit on, you pay on check in.
I have a refundable stay booked but am keeping an eye out for a better deal.
