Expedia double charging us....

Has any one else had this? booked 3 tickets thru Expedia who has since charged me twice for every ticket.

Called them and they said to call the airline (?) Called my credit card company and they said to call expedia. 3 hours with this last night.
 
I had that happen a few years ago with a hotel charge. Expedia said I had to call the hotel and the hotel said I had to call Expedia. I disputed both charges on my credit card in writing and wrote letters to Expedia and the hotel management. It took several months but I finally got the credit back on my account. The hotel was the one who had to do the credit.
Are both charges from Expedia, or is one from the airline and one from Expedia?
 
Contact the company whose name is on the credit card bill entry first. If one charge is from each company then contact them both at the same time.

File a dispute with your credit card company before the deadline for doing so even if Expedia has not answered your inquiries to them yet.

Off topic: I recommend just looking on Expedia, and booking directly with the hotel, airline, etc. Sob stories about Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, etc. abound.
 
Call your cc back and file a dispute. You have to file within 60 days of it appearing on your account. They'll contact their processing bank and they'll have to prove ( probably via ticket numbers ) that there were different charges. They told you to contact the merchant first in an attempt to work it out because it's part of the FCBA, Card Act, and all that other hooey. Write down names of everyone you talk to from Expedia and your cc, and what they said.
 
I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when I rented a car through them. I turned up at the car rental office to be told that there were two identical orders from me. Fortunately they said it was Expedia's problem and I never heard another word about it (wasn't double charged), but you're not alone!

I'd definitely call back your cc company and say you want to file a dispute.
 
I've been lucky so far and everything has been fine with Expedia. (Knock on wood. ;) ). I have also had good luck with their customer service...again so far.

I can't imagine how they end up double booking if that's what it is? Weird.
 
It will work out in the end, I feel sure. But what a pain! And an unneeded expense hanging out there on the card. I would just call the bank issuing the credit card, I think. They should be able to separate out the charge and keep it from being due while they sort it out.

Well I now researched and discovered theat EXPEDIA DOES this quite often. And they get to collect twice the amount of money. Imagine the people who don't catch it, or dispute it. Of course expeida says to call airtran, airtran says to call expedia. etc etc. I'll use NEITHER one ever again. Especially NOT expedia. Horrible contact while it's their error.

I work in a hotel and see this all the time from Expedia, Orbitz and all the other ones. Because of working in a hotel and how they work I will tell you this...yes SOME times they are cheaper then the hotel ect, BUT you do pay for them even though they say you don't. I have seen where my hotels rate is 69.99 and a reservation comes from expedia or what have you for more. Or because we can not tell guests what the rate is from expedia they are you paying what we are charging BUT told you it would be say 79.99 when you really only pay us 69.99 and you are paying them 10.00 for the booking. They do not give us your phone number, address and in most cases your cc number...they charge your card and they give us a prepaid card number.

That is what I say to do. They tell you what you want to hear and then most of the time reserve you something totally diffrent.

This is nothing new. A few years ago we had a guest come to check in and we were like do you want to check all 5 of your rooms in and the guest looked at us like we had 3 heads. Why guest needed 5 rooms for just one person was beyond our thought process. Come to find out the 5 rooms were one nighters and the guest wanted one room for 5 nights. The person on the line switched it around. Luckly for us it was easyly fixed by us...we cancled all 5 rooms and booked the guest in a room for 5 nights, with an upgrade to ocean front at a better rate then what expedia had told her for a street view room. Needless to say they were not too happy why they did not get that comission off the room.

First see who charged your card. If it was expedia than expedia has to deal with it. If it was airtran then airtran has to deal with it. Like I said above sometimes expedia takes you cc and charges it and then gives the company a prepaid cc. If this is what happened then they are the ones that need to deal with it. I would see if you can pull up your res on the internet or call airtran and talk to the highest person they will put on the phone. Explane to them what is going on and ask them to double check the cc they have on file that paid for the tickets. I would put in the dispute paper work until everything gets fixed.

I had that problem a few years ago with either Priceline or Hotwire. Can't recall which. They charged me, but then the hotel also hit the credit card with another room charge. Luckily a quick call to the hotel resulted in an immediate credit.

For things that look like billing errors, such as duplicate billings or totally out-of-the-blue bogus charges, you can start by disputing the charge with the credit card company. No need to deal first with the merchant in good faith.

Dealing first with the merchant applies to correct charges but with complaints about the merchandise or services you bought.
