I'm not sure this should go here so if it's the wrong place please feel free to move/delete it.

Basically I am a 5'7" 311lb woman who is very very nervous about being big at WDW. I have lost 49lbs over the last year and I will continue to eat healthier etc and try and lose more weight.
My question is this, what embarrassing things have you encountered on your WDW journeys related to size or weight? I know WDW is fairly fat friendly but I am still very concerned about the 'ground swallow me up' moments.
I want to be armed with as much information as possible so I don't have that terrible embarrassing moment creep up on me.

Thanks in advance
:grouphug:

Believe me, you will not have any embarrassing moments. Unless you do something very silly. :rotfl2:
Ive been to WDW many times of a similar and a larger size to you and ive never had any problems at all.
Relax and enjoy your holiday :goodvibes
well done on your brilliant weight loss already :cheer2:

Theres a 'pooh size thread' somewhere, use the search function. :thumbsup2
It will describe rides and space in more detail if youre that nervous. :)

If youre going to Universal some of their rides are a bit more restrictive but they have test seat at most attraction for you to test. :thumbsup2

Im sure you will have a wonderful time.xx :)

Thank you for the reasurrance. I am still worried but like I said I plan to lose a lot more weight. Hopefully at least another 49lbs. I have a year to go to do it in...it's possible right? LOL
What do you mean by the above? Are they smaller seats or weight related. Or just not suitable in general

Im pooh sized and i dnt have any probs on dis ey rides but universal some of the rides are a bit smaller in size so im a little more squashed but still ride them :-)

I habe to admit i feel slim sometimes out there as everyone seems alot bigger

So the rides feel squashed but they still let you go? I have quite a large stomach and worry about the bar type rides (when a bar comes down to your lap)

I like that saying. 'Pooh sized' :)

The biggest problem with having excess weight at WDW is tiredness and discomfort because of the heat. I have visited 4 times and have been various weights between 12 and 16 stone (up and down anad up again - not just getting bigger with each trip) and it was so noticable how much easier everything was at 12 stone. (Sadly I was 10 stone the year before that trip and am back to 15 stone now ... but I think a lot of readers will understand the weight battle!)

Anyway you won't have any embarressment as far as your size goes but this article from All Ears is very informative.

Holy moley! Congrats on the loss so far. I'm inspired.

I don't have anything to add, but just wanted to thank you for posting a question I was wondering about too. I was getting concerned after seeing all the trip reports from cute, but very small people.

Maybe I'll go check out that "pooh sized" section, just in case. ;)

I oush the bars in alot so i know i wont fall out :-) so thats why i feel squashed as i like to have them tight. I worry that ill fall out

Awesome sites thaknk you. x

I'm not worried about the tiredness or discomfot as I am a waitress so am used to being on my feet and running around like a looney all day whilst being sticky and sweaty from the heat and am used to finding unique ways to overcome it all.
It is purely a 'one size does not fit all' issue. lol

Thank you. I am glad I could inspire someone. It is hard work at times but it has got to be worth the battle in the long run.....I hope

Hi, Well done on your weight loss, awesome. like Libby i've been arrange of sizes over the last 7 years we've visited. We have just got back & i'm the biggest i've been (14 stone), possibly similar size to you as i'm quite short and can honestly say I had no problems at all on any of the rides at Disney or US/IOA.
I did experience a lady & (I think, her daughter) having difficulty on The Mummy, it resulted in the lady having to get off, the daughter was able to ride. The staff were very discrete & I don't think we would have noticed the daughter at all, if the lady hadn't been so insistent on riding. The lady was a lot bigger than the daughter. I really felt for her but think that if it were me I would have researched first, rather than risk it. I think you are doing the right thing by asking & checking first, the lady didn't seem at all embarrassed but like you, I would be. Well done on your weight loss so far & best of luck as you continue.

Thank you. I think my worries come from a couple of years ago I went to a theme park and could not ge the overhead bar down far enough to be able to ride. I was mortified and it ruined my whole day. I still carry that experience with me now and would hate to remeber WDW like that.
Lets hope I shrink a bit more by then.;)

you're 3 inches taller and 40lbs lighter than I used to be.
I've never had any real issue going to Disney's

Plus, in WDW you'll be well inside the norm, and maybe a bit on the skinny side.

Keep up the good work losing weight and everything will be ok

Thank you, it really helps to hear peoples personal experiences and sizes as to how they get on in the WDW.. Thank you :flower3:

you didnt have a ticker before but now I know youve still got a year to go. youve got the potential to lose more and im sure you will :thumbsup2

yes Universals seats are slightly smaller but you should still be ok.
They do have lap bars and overhead bars on their rides, so if you test any 'test seats' make sure you check the bars fit too.
Due to H&S rules at Universal & IOA the staff are no longer able to help 'squish' you in.

heres one of the 'pooh sized' threads

as already mentioned Allears has some info too. :thumbsup2

one of my tips for any of the rides with seatbelts, is to fully pull the seatbelt out before sitting down.
It just makes it easier to find and click into place.

Please don't stress about your size.

If there is an issue people are very discrete - they are used to larger people in america eg if they are seating you in a diner they may show you to a table with chairs not a booth or ask what you prefer.

At universal rides have test seats and certain seats are bigger. The discretely put you in that row not shout clear row 3 we've got a fatty here :)

DH can't ride some rides at universal harry potter being one but he is very tall and a 3xl top. He still has a great time.

I've been at your size before and never had any problems in Disney. I wasn't able to ride the Harry Potter ride though, I don't do big coasters so I can't comment on those. Don't worry about your weight, there are so many big people there that I have never felt that I stood out in any way. :goodvibes

well done on your loss so far - that is fab - and I bet you will do just as well over the next year :thumbsup2

The ride that springs to mind the most is Harry Potter Forbidden Journey and I have poured over pages reading about that - it just seems so random who can fit and who cant. There were a couple of other rides at Universal mentioned that have some adapted seating but otherwise people of all sizes seem to be fine - especially at WDW

Thank you for all your encouraging words. I must admit I think after all your advice and help I am now not worried about WDW, but am still a little aprehensive about Universal (especially the HP rides). But I am sure I will have a fun time regardless.

I still have a few things I need to sort out and find to make my magical journey as comfortable and exciting as possible but I am sure with you ladies (and gents) helping I will get there.

At Universal a lot of the more thrilling rides have test seats at the entrance of the ride so you can try for yourself if you will fit in the seat before you join the queue. I see that your trip is next summer, if you are concentrating on your diet and weight loss you can easily loose several more stones by then. I know that is what I am planning to do as I agree that part of the problem for larger size people is the heat and getting tired more easily. I too am trying to loose several more stones before I go back to America next year (I'm doing slimming world have have lost 2 1/2 stone so far)!! Good luck on your weight loss.
