Hi All!!

Well, we are booked for June 3rd -8th and I have now started some SERIOUS planning.

Do you reckon there wil be massive crowds during our stay?

I have had a quick look at the european school holidays and it seems that it is just UK and some parts of Germany that are off.

Have a missed something blindingly obvious?

no you haven't missed anything - UK June half term week should be lovely and manageable this year :).

We're going around the same time too. I didn't realise that some German schools were off? Probably a sweeping generalisation but I don't think Germans are the bigger visitors of DLRP anyway so hope it won't make much difference.

I don't think it will be as bad as a usual half term as often other European schools are off at the same time.

Having said that, I spoke to a CM about a week or so ago on the telephone about hotel rates and he told me it was going to be very busy that week. He said the trains had been sold out for 3 months - not sure which trains he was talking about as I did not ask :confused3.

When I told him I knew only the English & Welsh were off school, he said that the French & Spanish were off the week before and after respectively (I haven't been able to find that?). When I asked him how that would affect our week, he said that often they take their kids out of school the week before/after a main holiday in the hope they too will miss the 'rush'. To be honest I wasn't convinced and still think he was trying to scare me into booking a hotel room there and then. He tried telling me I risk not getting a room if I leave it as they are getting very full :confused3.

Take it as you will, from the more experienced on here, they all say it will not be that busy - busier than a standard term time week, but not high season silly.

I hope it's that way anyway ;). Makes for easier planning hopefully :thumbsup2.

French school holidays end on the 7th of May and Spanish holidays don't start until the 23rd of June so I don't know what your CM was talking about

You should have taken his name and then asked to speak to someone else as that kind of service is not something that needs encouraging

Carrie - I did get his name albeit a first name but it was unusual. To be honest, he was very surly and quite rude (he was American). I was taken aback as the times I've telephoned in the past I have always spoken to someone very helpful and polite.

I didn't take it any further but couldn't wait to get off the telephone. He was very unhelpful and rude .

Glad you confirmed the holidays - I thought I was going mad. I don't think he liked the fact that I was able to tell him I knew what holidays were when (and so had a little bit of knowledge).

Anyway, I digress, just pleased I came on here and realised it won't be as bad as the picture he painted :cool1:

I was also thinking that as it the Queens jubilee, many UK families will be staying at home too.... Will many people be visiting the UK to celebrate, I wonder...

Yes perhaps you are correct. I have heard of a fair few street parties on etc so maybe people will take advantage of the time off but stay at home.

I really don't know about people visiting from other countries - I don't think it's on the scale of say, Will & Kate's wedding, but I suppose you never know? I think there are going to be some spectacular concerts in London which might draw people :confused3 I might have been persuaded to go there had we not been away :lmao:

So, fingers crossed for a reasonably queue free time :thumbsup2

Wonder what EMH will be - do you think there will be any with the parks opening later at night (wish I knew what times!). I just hope it's dark enough to do Dreams justice :goodvibes. Seeing Candlebration in the light really spoilt it for me, I came home and watched it on YouTube (taken in the dark) and it was really good! You need it to be dark for these things!

There will no doubt be a lot of Commonwealth vistors as they often come to major royal events.

I still have a mug somewhere from her silver jubilee :)

Some of what he said is true. The direct eurostar trains for half term week have been sold out for a while. We also going that week and have got the train home booked, but not one going out, so having to wait to see if we can book one going via Lille.

i too will be at dlrp first week of june this year and im expecting it to be rather busy.

i went last sept and was looking forward to low crowds but i still found it to be rather busy so i dread to think what july and august is like!!

and im glad i booked the eurostar in october coz its all sold out now for june

I have been uk half term week for the last two years and the crowds have always been quite manageable (apart from the end of the week last year when it was a french holiday and manic). I can't see that the one extra bank holiday day for the UK will make a huge difference to the crowds, but even if it is very busy you can still get plenty done and have a great time if you plan well.:goodvibes
