Children aren't allowed to sit in exit rows I know. But are they restricted from sitting in the row directly BEHIND the exit row? I thought I'd read that somewhere but can't find info on the UAL website....
TIA!

Based on the attached from the Delta site (bullet number two), it looks like the restriction is with child restraints in the rows in front/back of the exit rows.......

Where to Sit with a Child Restraint

When you're using a child restraint, do not select seats in the following areas:

* Emergency exit rows
* Any seat one row forward or one row back from an emergency exit row
* Aisle seats
* Bulkhead seats when the car seat is a combination car seat and stroller

I know you're flying UA, but thought this might help clarify. :thumbsup2

Thanks! That's what I was thinking of :thumbsup2 . United does not have this info on their website - they only mention you can't have children in the exit row. DS is 11 so we're fine. Just realized we have seats in the row behind the exit row on a long flight this summer ... the window seat doesn't have a seat directly in front of it :teeth: which is wonderful for my 6'2" DH!

Are you sure that row isn't an exit row? It is considered an exit row with Delta. I'm assuming you mean the row of 3 seats behind the exit row with only 2 seats. There is no A seat in that row of 2. I have the window seat in the row and have no seat in front of me. But, I was asked repeated questions when I booked to make sure no children were flying, that I could follow instructions..yada, yada.
Just curious.

When they say children they mean anyone under 15 years old, so you are NOT "fine", you should try to grab different seats now.

When the family and I travel this past Feb. SW would not let me have a exit seat. I'm 6ft 7inches tall and always try to grab that seat, because of the leg room. Thats because of this time of traveling with the whole family, not just myself and wife, they denied me, for they stated they want a person in them seats that will not be distracted of help at a time of emergency, because of their children of any age. A person that takes them seats are required to stay and help at that station for as long as possible during a emergency of existing.

Hmm... Not sure what to think now. These are award tickets booked on the phone talking to a real person (not the Indian call center) and they knew my son is a "child" by their definition (the confirmation has his title as "master") - so I assumed they wouldn't book us seats that aren't "legal". I know, never assume...! Will call and see what's up I guess.
Thanks for all your input!

My dh has the same issues. I wish I could get him into an exit row seat when we all travel together but he can't since our dd is still only 12.

Best thing to do, as you said you are doing is call. Plane configurations vary
between airlines and sometimes even within the same airline. Peace of mind with a phone call!

I overheard a FA once say, "The seats belong to the airline, but the EXIT rows belong to the FAA!" When DH and I board first in the A group on SWA, one of us has to carry on our boarding pass to alert the FAs that we are the first in the A group and can sit in the EXIT rows.

Called and it looks like we're OK as we're in the row behind the row behind the exit row - the config is different than listed on several websites. But as most thought, children under 15 cannot be in the exit rows or those immediately behind or in front of that. Since DS is listed as "master" on the reservation that SHOULD keep us from being assigned a row we can't be in it appears. We've always done that, and guess we'll keep listing him that way until he's > 15 to be safe! In the worse case scenario that we did have to move and sit all over the plane, DS would be OK sitting apart from a parent even tho he's prefer not to....
Thanks all!
